One Change Challenge: BATHING
When someone living with dementia refuses a bath, pause before trying harder to get the bath completed.
Bathing may feel cold, confusing, exposing, rushed, or frightening, especially when the person does not fully understand what is happening.
This week, change one part of the experience:
Warm the room. Use fewer words. Cover the parts of the body you are not washing. Offer a washcloth bath. Give a simple choice. Or pause and try again later when distress begins to build.
The goal is not to win the bathing battle.
The goal is to make personal care feel safer.
What is one change you could try?
