What I learned Training Euro Club Team in Charlotte & Live Community Call 10/3
🔴 LIVE COMMUNITY ZOOM CALL — SATURDAY 10/3 @ 12 PM EST Join us for our next community call as we unpack this & I want to hear from you! Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85240434725 🏀 Today's post: 'WHAT I LEARNED TRAINING A CLUB TEAM IN CHARLOTTE & DIVINE APPOINTMENT WITH NBA SHARP SHOOTER I just returned from an incredible weekend in Charlotte working with a basketball academy (Hoops Krew) that is building around a European club model. Taking a group of 8th grade boys for 1 year through a complete immersion of training in all areas: competitive games, training, weight room, nutrition, setting goals, devotionals, identity, confidence, film, etc. And we didn't just train on court for their basketball skills. We trained the whole player: mind, body, spirit, soul. My role is to come out there quarterly over the next year & really focus on development of their "identity, confidence & spiritually." So for this first visit this is what we focused on: 🏀 On-court player development 🧠 Confidence workshops 📝 Player Development Plans (PDPs) 🙏 Prayer walk 📖 The Origins of Basketball story 👨‍👩‍👧 Parent development session One of the highlights of the weekend was also an unexpected encounter with former 10 year NBA sharpshooter Anthony Morrow, who is one of the parents involved with the academy. It was a powerful 'divine appointment' as I call. I spoke to all the parents at a dinner. After I had an opportunity to spend time with Anthony and his wife, speak into them and pray over them. After hearing the Origins of Basketball story and talking afterward, Anthony told me: "It struck many chords in the heart & mind." That conversation stayed with me along with some other powerful conversations I had with other parents in the program. Here are 4 big takeaways I'm bringing home & want to share with you: 1️⃣ TRAIN THE IDENTITY — NOT JUST THE SKILLSET We spend thousands of hours teaching players how to shoot, dribble, pass, defend and get stronger.

Live Masterclass: College Basketball Scholarship (9/17)
🏀🎓 LIVE MASTERCLASS: HOW TO GET A COLLEGE BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP 📅 Thursday, September 17 ⏰ 6:00 PM EST 📍 LIVE on Zoom — Exclusively for our Community If playing college basketball is one of your goals, I HIGHLY encourage you and your parents to attend this LIVE. I'm bringing in Joseph Lewis for a special masterclass where we're going to break down what players & families need to know about creating opportunities to play at the next level. We're going beyond “work hard and hope a coach finds you.” We're talking about an actual PLAN. WHAT WE'RE GOING TO COVER: 🏀 What college coaches are actually looking for 🎯 How to separate yourself from thousands of other players 📲 How to identify schools & begin contacting college programs 🎥 What you should showcase in your film/highlights 💪 Why becoming a SPECIALIST can dramatically increase your value 📚 How academics, attitude & character impact recruiting 🚫 Recruiting mistakes that can cost players opportunities 📈 How to create a PERSONALIZED recruiting game plan 🤝 How players AND parents should communicate with college coaches 🗺️ What you should be doing RIGHT NOW based on where you are in your journey And we'll leave time to ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS LIVE. Parents — I strongly encourage you to attend WITH your player. One of the biggest problems I see isn't a lack of dreams. It's a lack of a roadmap. Families spend thousands of dollars on teams, tournaments, trainers, camps and exposure… but still don't have a clear answer to: “How do we actually turn all of this into an opportunity to play college basketball?” That's what Thursday is about. And even if your player isn't in high school yet, maybe only in 5th–8th grade, this can be incredibly valuable. You DON'T need to start obsessing about recruiting yet. But understanding where you're trying to go can help you make much better decisions about development, teams, academics and opportunities over the next several years. 🚨 MAKE PLANS TO ATTEND LIVE. Thursday 9/17 @ 6:00 PM EST

Floater Breakdown & Drill... College Basketball Scholarship Masterclass
We have some excited updates inside the community for you guys! COLLEGE BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP MASTERCLASS: *** 9/18, Thursday, 6pm EST *** Quick reminder we will be having a new live masterclass this week with former NBA/UofL Point guard Joseph Trey Lewis. He played at 3 different D1 colleges (Penn St, Cleveland St., Univ. of Louisville). He will join me to break down his journey, how he prepared in high school & how he got his college scholarships. I'll also have feedback/tips from smaller college coaches for players not playing D1. We'll post that exact live zoom call time. The plan now is Thursday 6pm est. but I'll plan around his schedule as he is traveling this week. If you miss the live call we'll still have the replay available. Mike James Breakdown & Floater Drill: I just uploaded another point guard drill inside the Drills Library (click "classroom" to access all drills if you have Premium membership). I posted the 'Mike James Series' taking a look at his film & his floater/baby hook shot. It is a lost art & becoming more rare these days to see guards with an elite floater or hook shot. For those that don't know Mike James I also included some youtube highlights of him, one of the most skill players on the planet! He has been in the NBA but is also the all time leading scorer in the euro league as a point guard. He is known for his beautiful running hook shot & floaters. Why Every Point Guard Needs a Floater: 1. Small guards need a shot they can get off against ANYONE. You aren't always going to finish over bigger, longer defenders at the rim. The floater lets you score over length without having to challenge length. 2. It's perfect in transition & coming off ball screens. If your defender is chasing you from behind, you don't always have time to come to a complete stop for a pull-up jumper. The floater allows you to stay in rhythm and score on the move. 3. It keeps rim protectors off balance. You don't have to take everything all the way to the rim. Once you prove you can consistently make the floater, the big has to step up and contest you earlier, instead of camping underneath the basket.

LESSONS I LEARNED FROM NBA PLAYERS & COACHES THIS SUMMER
LIVE COMMUNITY ZOOM CALL — THIS SATURDAY @ 12:00 PM EST Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82085154762 This summer gave me some unique opportunities to train alongside, work with and learn from NBA players and coaches while traveling, training and working camps. I was around guys like Derrick White, AJ Lawson, Greg Oden, NBA coaches and other high-level basketball minds and I was paying attention. Not just to what they do on the court, but how they think, work, prepare, communicate and carry themselves off the court. I also had some very powerful conversations & ministry moments with these guys as well. This Saturday on our Community Call I'm going to unpack some of the biggest lessons I took away from those experiences. We’ll talk about things like how NBA players actually train, what separates elite players, the journey, attacking weaknesses instead of hiding them, the details NBA coaches pay attention to, how NBA coaches run training with purpose instead of just working hard, character and coachability, and what parents can learn from being around the highest levels of the game. I think this call will be packed with valuable info & lessons whether you're a PLAYER, PARENT or COACH. Some of these lessons reinforced things I've believed for years. Others challenged the way I think about player development. And a few were things you simply don't understand until you're in the gym watching how the highest-level players and coaches operate. Come ready to take notes and bring your questions. I'll leave time at the end for LIVE Q&A as well. See you Saturday! -Coach Phillip Basketball Missionary & Your Point Guard Coach 9/12, Saturday - 12:00 PM EST 🎥 LIVE on Zoom + Replay will be posted inside the community ZOOM LINK: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82085154762
