Automation is awesome, but a lot of people invest on it way too early instead of focusing on the stuff that really matters in the early stages. There are a lot of things you need to figure our before you can get any return of investment from automation.
It only makes sense to invest on fancy automation solutions once you have a solid process and a decent number of audience/members/clients.
Here is a detailed breakdown on what you need to worry about at each stage of your online business building and what are the priorities at each one.
1. Getting started 🏃♀️:
- The first thing you need to figure out is what your business is about, what problems it solves and who is going to benefit from it.
- Don't be in a hurry to figure things out. Gather feedback, ask for help, research what people really are asking for and be ready to reinvent yourself as many times as necessary.
- At this stage it makes more sense investing on consulting from experts than on fancy tools and contractors to set them up. A lot of people make the mistake of investing in tech before doing a proper market research and establishing their brand accordingly.
2. Establish your online presence 🤝
- After you have a solid plan on what your business is going to be you should figure out where your potential clients hang out. Based on that you create your online presence. We got Skool, Facebook, Reddit, LinkedIn, freelancing websites, job posting pages and many other places to establish our presence. Create your profiles/communities/pages in those and start conecting.
- We can also count our own private websites for that. Having your own website not only gives you autonomy to present your brand the exact way you want but also gives you credibility. Having an oficial registered business with a physical location on Google Maps on top of that also goes a long way on increasing your visibility and credibility.
- Having an online presence includes both having our own pages in several places and also interacting with people in big pages and communities. Hang out at subreddits, facebook groups, communities, support forums and any other place where your people are. Don't only self promote, but help people, teach something, deliver value. I made an incredible live event on 's community going over that on detail.
----> ⚙️That's the point where you can start thinking about automation. Crossposting across different platforms, scheduling posts, configuring AI agents to answer people (be careful to not spam AI slop). All to reach as many people as you can across the internet. But you might not want to invest on that too soon, as you might still be figuring things out at this stage. Maybe wait untill you're on the third stage detailed bellow.
3. Organize and optimize your process 📈
- Once you get a decent audience and start getting members on your communities, loyal followers and clients, you need to worry about having a good process.
- Every business has these core processes: presales, sales, delivery and after-sales. Presales processes are the ones that involve finding the ideal clients and capturing their interest in your businesses. Sales are the processes involved in closing the deal and receiving the payment. Delivery is the offering of the product or service you promissed. And after-sales is support, continuous contact and upselling attempts. All of those processes need to be very clear for you and automated as much as possible.
- If those processes are not organized investing on automation is a waste of money. Automation only works when you have clarity on your routines.
- At this point you need to implement an automated scheduling process, use a CRM for visibility and management of your traffic and sales, have a dedicated help desk platform, have a reliable and practical payment service and configure everything in a way that you can easily follow everything through solid analytics.
