Caron Cakes yarn

I am planning to make a Loop Shawl for my sister-in-law. I have never used Caron Cakes yarn before.

The pattern says it needs a certain number of cakes/cones/skeins depending on the type of yarn used.. My question is this:

How many yards do I actually need?
Do these yarns come in different sizes of cakes?

For example, I know that not all Lion Brand Yarns of the same brand come in only one size of skein. When I am looking at the yarn and consider what I need to buy, I need to know if the cake I am looking at is the same size of cake as the pattern calls for.

Does this make sense?
