Superstition
Superstitions have always been part of knitting. Here are four you may not have heard before... 1. Leave at least one mistake. The idea that only the divine can create something perfect can be observed in many cross-cultural craft practices, such as Persian rug making. Historically, deliberate mistakes were added to work to keep knitters safe, which also links to the idea that human work was never designed to be perfect. 2. No knitting on Sundays. This idea comes from Irish Aran knitters, who worked long hours on highly skilled pieces for very little pay, sometimes only receiving food in return. 3.Trap a strand of hair in your work. Some believe that trapping a strand of hair in your knitting can bind the recipient to you. This comes from old folk stories, where hair was said to be used in spells or keepsakes to carry part of a person. 4. No knitting for a partner before marriage. The ‘sweater curse’ is the superstition that knitting a time intensive gift for a partner prior to marriage can lead to its breakdown. As any seasoned knitter knows, hours invested in a garment aren't always rewarded by the recipient and this theory is emblematic of that. If you have any…..Share yours below.

@Linda Simard Fascinating!
Working with Beads and i-cord
I am wanting to make a keychain for my 16yo granddaughter- using i-cord and letter beads to spell her name. My problem is finding large enough beads with large enough holes to fit the i-cord through. I found some alphabet beads at Hobby Lobby that the label says the opening is 2 mm. A different one says 2.05 mm. And a third one says 2.2 mm. Are any of these going to work i-cord made with #2 or #3 weight fiber/yarn? I need someone who’s already traveled this road to share their experience and what actually works, please!

@Kim Thompson-Pinder Thank you! This is helpful. Does the package list diameter of the opening?

I found some 7mm wood beads. The diameter of the opening was not given. Thought I’d try them, and if too small see if my woodworking hubby can use his tiniest drill bit to slightly enlarge the opening. I’ll let you know how it works.

💛 Would You Like to See a “Featured Member of the Week”? 🧶
The Admin Team and I have been thinking about a new way to help our community grow closer and help members get to know each other better… ✨ Featured Member of the Week ✨ The idea would be to highlight one member each week and share a little about: • Their knitting journey • Favorite projects • Goals and interests • Tips or encouragement for others • Maybe even a few fun facts 😊 🌟 Who Would Be Eligible? This would be open to: 💛 Premium members 💛 VIP members 💛 Any member who is Level 6 or higher Participation would be completely voluntary — no pressure at all. If someone wanted to participate, I would simply send them a short questionnaire to fill out. 💛 Why I Think This Could Be Fun One of the best parts of this community is the people in it. I think this could help: • Members feel more connected • Encourage more conversations • Help newer members get to know people • Celebrate the amazing people we already have here Because sometimes we see projects… But we don’t always get to know the person behind them 💛 ✏️ What Do You Think? Would you enjoy seeing a Featured Member of the Week in the community? And if you qualify… 👉 Would you be interested in participating? Let me know below 👇🧶

@Kim Thompson-Pinder Awesome idea!
Balloon dog
Our grandson asked me to make him a balloon dog that he could snuggle with. He had a white ceramic one that broke. I repaired with glue, when I showed it to him, he asked if it was okay if he could keep it at our house in the kids room. He really couldn’t snuggle with. Used Addi 22, Premier Just Yarn, 4 weight, 250gr, minimal crocheting for nose and tail. Pattern: @peekaboosustainable 10 body parts, doubled to make 2 of each.
