Hey everyone, thanks for showing interest in this! This is a challenge that almost everyone in the hobby has encountered at some point. It’s been framed in many ways: "What if disaster strikes and you had to start over?" or "You need to downsize for crucial reasons" or even "Your wife divorces you, takes more than half, and this is all you can keep."

for posing this interesting challenge, which you can check out [here]. My wife and I had a blast going through about 200-250 tester strips before finally narrowing it down to 25!

Problem Statement: "Something happens and you have to downsize. You must pick 25 fragrances to keep; five for each season, plus five wildcards. What are you keeping?"

Since this list could get quite lengthy, I'd like to break it down by seasons (plus a bonus section). I've categorized the fragrances into Office, Casual, Formal, Date Night, and Versatile. Here’s a quick rundown: Office scents are inoffensive, mass-appealing, and not too strong. Casual scents are perfect for hanging out with friends or relaxing at home. Formal scents are reserved for special occasions like weddings and holiday parties. Date Night scents are ideal for intimate moments. Lastly, Versatile scents (which I find the most challenging) are those that effortlessly cross these boundaries.

Office: Roja Parfums Burlington 1819

Burlington 1819 is a refined fragrance that combines sharp citrus, bold spices, and rugged woods, embodying a strong, timeless masculinity. With a smooth and assertive opening of bergamot and lime leading into a robust mix of mid notes and a sturdy, woody base, it’s a scent that while soft in projection, still commands attention and exudes CEO confidence with both its freshness and depth.

Casual: Memoirs of a Perfume Collector Trouble in Paradise

MOAPC Trouble in Paradise is a daring summer fragrance that blends a heavy mango note with boozy accords, creating a scent that’s both adventurous and fun. Its intense opening of vibrant mango with a dash of sweetness from cardamom transitions into a deep, boozy and woody base, making it perfect for casual wear in a variety of situations.

Formal: Memo Paris African Leather

A surprise from the wife, as I pegged this one as the versatile, Memo Paris African Leather is a bold and exotic fragrance that combines the warmth of leather with the vibrancy of spices and wild herbs. Its rich, leathery base is complemented with fresh and sweet notes from geranium, vetiver and patchouli. It's surprising freshness, for a leather scent, does remarkably well in the heat of summer and fits perfectly for those more formal events. The moment I tried this, I knew it was an instant full-bottle purchase!

Date Night: Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint

Another surprise from the missus, I didn't peg this one to be intimate, but in the hot summer nights, Aoud Lemon Mint excels at delivering a bright lemon profile mixed with a depth of oud and the coolness of mint. The scent opens with a zesty burst of citrus bounded smoothly with almond to tame the tartness, and then evolves into a rich, woody heart that frames the refreshing mint, making it both invigorating, masculine and opulent, while being alluring and enticing.

Versatile: Acqua Di Parma Essenza di Colonia

Essenza di Colonia by Acqua di Parma is a bright and elegant fragrance that masterfully blends citrus notes with aromatic spices and rich woods. It was tough to choose any particular Acqua di Parma as this house really has high quality fresh fragrances. This one's fresh, zesty opening of neroli and bergamot transitions into a sophisticated heart of jasmine and rosemary, anchored by a warm, woody base, making it a timeless classic. The florals here are not overpowering; I liken this one as a great barbershop scent.
