Auctioneer Q&A: Preparation before the Auction
How long before license was received?
Hey all. I passed my Florida auctioneers exam Jan. 29th. As of today, I still have not received my license. I called and they said I should receive it “at the end of the week”….. two weeks ago and again today. Just curious – how long did it take to get yours in hand? P.S. And no- they are not delaying it because of my name. 🤣 I have a FL real estate license as well and had a super fast turn around.

Sequencing your live auction
So I just got done working on sequencing a live auction for Thursday night and got a text asking where do you think we should put the Spay package that just got donated. The questions we get asked sometimes just have to make you smile. What is the weirdest thing you have sold??? Of course I told them right after the 20 bales of premium hay. 😃

Nonverbal Communication is the most important part!
One thing we don’t practice much is our body language. I found this recently and thought I needed to share this: You’ll usually hear “93% of communication is nonverbal.” That number is widely quoted—and widely misunderstood. Here’s the accurate breakdown. Where the 93% comes from The figure comes from research by Albert Mehrabian, who studied communication only when emotions or attitudes conflict with words. In those specific situations, he found: - 55% body language - 38% tone of voice - 7% words 55 + 38 = 93% nonverbal What that does not mean It does not mean: - 93% of all communication is nonverbal - Words don’t matter - Content is irrelevant If you’re giving directions, teaching math, or explaining a contract, words matter a lot. The real takeaway (and the useful one) - Words carry information - Tone and body language carry meaning - When words and nonverbal cues conflict, people trust the nonverbal That’s why someone can say “I’m fine” and no one believes them. Practical version (especially for stages, meetings, and fundraising) In persuasive, emotional, or leadership communication: - Nonverbal cues often matter more than the exact words - Confidence, pacing, eye contact, posture, and vocal energy drive trust - Words without congruent nonverbal delivery lose power This is why it is so important to video your performances and practice in front of a mirror a few times a week. You have to be purposeful in those movements!
