The contest is not about winning but improving and exposure in my mind. Winning is cool but the battle prep is where the rubber meets the road for me, this and the feedback of my peers who have gone before me.
What's one habit you've had to unlearn to become a better auctioneer?
Most auctioneers think they have a chant problem. Often, they have a breathing problem. When you run out of air, you lose clarity. You lose rhythm. You lose control. But when you learn to breathe properly and "top off the tank," everything changes. Your voice has more power. Your chant becomes smoother. Your confidence grows. Don't just practice faster. Practice breathing better. The fundamentals aren't flashy, but they're what separate good auctioneers from great ones.

All of this conversation is so spot on. Being the best YOU is what sets you apart. Breath control and clarity will beat fast every time, although I do like to hear fast!! To Bobby’s point purposeful practice (or as another mentor of mine calls it practice perfectly) is key. I have seen many practice bad and it is counter productive.
Breathing in excellence example
Here is Texas State Champion Josh Phelps showing us why he is the best! Love his breathing style. Watch how he opens his mouth, drops his diaphragm and breaths on beat. Great work! https://www.facebook.com/reel/1483332437171703
