After finishing my degree in Construction Management at Sheffield Polytechnic, I never imagined I’d end up in telecommunications.
But one person, David McCourt, saw something in me before I saw it in myself.
I became the first UK employee of McCourt Keywit International, right at the unbundling of BT’s copper networks.
There was no hand-holding. It was sink or swim.
I laid fibre optic networks for investment banks. Negotiated deals far above my experience level. Travelled. Delivered. And somewhere along the way, I met Warren Buffett, without realising how special that moment really was.
What I learned:
● Step up before you feel ready.
● Say yes before you feel qualified.
● Surround yourself with people who challenge your comfort zone.
The potential in you is unlocked through action, not waiting.
