... but what does that actually mean?
i recently came across the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza, a 17th century philosopher who was excommunicated from his community at just 23 years old for asking questions that challenged common beliefs.
questions like: what if God and the universe are the same thing? what if you are not separate from existence but an expression of it?
this philosophy was known as pantheism, and it left a significant impact that still exists today.
every atom in your body was forged in the heart of a star. the calcium in your bones, the iron in your blood, the oxygen in your lungs. all of it was born inside stars billions of years ago. and then, for one brief moment in cosmic history, the universe arranged itself into something capable of looking back at itself in awe.
the universe became you.
Spinoza called this Deus sive Natura - God or Nature. not two separate things, but one infinite reality expressing itself through countless forms and different parts of a whole.
Einstein said: "I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the lawful harmony of what exists."
you're not a lonely being dropped into a random universe. you are the universe expressing itself through this one unique life.
