Most People Never Get Past Level 2 with AI
After reading hundreds of discussions in this community, I noticed something interesting.
People don't really differ by which AI tool they use.
They differ by how they think with it.
Here's how I see the progression:
Level 1 – AI as Google
You ask for answers. You copy the result. Fast... but your thinking doesn't change.
Level 2 – AI as an Assistant
You ask it to write, summarize, organize, or automate tasks. This saves time and boosts productivity.
Level 3 – AI as a Teacher
Instead of asking for answers, you ask:
Why?
What am I missing?
Explain it differently.
Quiz me until I understand.
This is where real learning begins.
Level 4 – AI as a Challenger
You ask it to disagree with you. To find flaws in your reasoning. To defend the opposite position. To expose blind spots before they become expensive mistakes.
Level 5 – AI as a Thinking Partner
You don't use AI to replace your judgment.
You use it to improve your judgment.
At this stage, the conversations become more valuable than the answers.
I think many people believe they're using AI at a high level simply because they know advanced prompts.
But prompts aren't the skill.
Thinking is.
Question for the community:
Which level describes how you use AI today, and what helped you move to that level?
