Final Canadian National Team Tryout Camp
I participated in the final tryout camp for the canadian national team this weekend. Irregardless of the outcome I am very happy with my improvements since the first camp (and starting to work with Tek). Here are my tests (note that I actually tested OC on my weaker side this time compared to last camp): OC 330m in 1:48.39 (14.6s PR) OC 150m in 0:46.03 (3.97s PR) DB1 200m in 1:42.33 (don't know previous time) DB1 100m in 0:47.14 (1.86s PR) It wouldn't have been possible without Tek's coaching and programming. It really helped my build up the conditioning and technique for these tests and the full boat sessions on the water. Highly recommended for taking it to the next level. Excited to keep up the grind 💪

Which Race Distance Brings you the Most Joy? and why?
We all come from different paddling disciplines. Some dragon boat, some outrigger, others sailing, and etc. If you're racing which race distance brings you the most joy and why?

Extremely hard choice for me. I've only raced 200, 500, and 2000 m distances. I like them all for different reasons. The 200 is basically a tasty little snack. Fun but you're hungry again in 20 minutes. 500m is the bread and butter. I feel the most "applied" in the race. 2000 m (with turns) is most opportunity for chaos and collisions which makes it the most fun. I love when the weather is also terrible; the worse the better. Then when you finish, you feel like you've been in a battle with the elements. The only downside of the 2k is that there are a lot of factors that "muddle" your performance. I have to pick the 500m because it best shows of the work you've put into the sport
Apex Paddle Erg Cup
I competed this weekend at the annual Afterburn Apex Paddle Erg Cup which is (as far as I know) the biggest perg competition in Canada. It was a long day but I did four individual events: a 500m heat and final and a 200m heat and final. Then my pod (4 men) did two team events. The first was 4 minutes max distance with one person on perg and one person on rowing erg with a forced alternation every minute. The second was a 2 km relay race on perg. All in all, I placed 24/73 on the 500m overall and 38/73 on the 200m overall. My pod placed 2nd in the open category with point accumulated across the individual and team events. There is a super long video of the entire day but you can see one our relay races here. I am wearing the light blue Montreal jersey: https://www.youtube.com/live/0esyXpqgDrI?feature=shared&t=27458 Excited and motivated to come back next year and take the #1 spot.

2:32 OC1 right-rigged 500m DB paddle time trial
Wasn't my best still... slight breeze, some weird current, but I pushed my hardest for this. One more month until time trial in Tampa! Let's go! I focused on not overreaching, going straight to my catch with rotation, and pushing out through my exit. Anyone else got footage of their time trials?

@Tek Li I believe this was a 150m test. We only test 150m and 330m on the OC here

@Tek Li you can see I bounce so much though. Yours looks smooth at butter 😍
Resistance Training
I'll be talking about the benefits and purpose of resistance training tonight. If you have a photo of resistance training while paddling, please share it here in the comments. Disclaimer: I may use it for the presentation! =D
