What do you wear!?
Curious.... what kind of skates everyone has!? I just got into skating a few months ago and got a pair of Roller Derby skates at our local sporting goods shop. I didn't want to spend alot on starter skates because I have a habit of deciding to learn something new and not following through. I fell in love. Upgraded to Sure--Grip Fame wheels and now am impatiently waiting for my size to come back in-stock of the VNLA Luna skates.

@Toi MissToi they are very stiff boots. I think they are good for artistic and figure but don't wear them for rink or rhythm and jam skating.
What are your 2025 Skate goals?
Share your 2025 skate goals! Skills wise what do you hope to improve? Meeting skaters? Travelling to a rink or event you've never been to?... Im working towards mastering sit spin by summer and hopefully 5 comfortable hurricane kicks. Aiming to skate 3 times a week whenever possible and get to more street skate meets with my local skate community. Holding myself accountable here so hopefully I'll be looking back at this post soon enough having achieved them and maybe more along the way. 🤞🏼🛼🌪️

Improving matrix/grapevine, always working on spins, and more flowing moves that blend together. Really really am so glad I started ballet in the fall because it's translated to a serious level up with balance, posture, and core control on wheels, so if anyone is struggling there and want to make it more natural/automatic, ballet is very helpful!
Spins!
Anybody have a major tip for maintaining a spin for a long time? I can spin about 5 rotations but always fall out of em early. I forgot to get a video last rink sesh but I'll try to get one.

Are you whipping into it? Centrifugal force can throw you off your axis but if you're getting five rotations, you're obviously doing something right!

@Paul Schmidt try going into it slower with more control and I bet you’ll not fall out of it.
How Do You Learn From The Courses?🤔
I am curious how everyone approaches learning from the courses here. 1. Are you standing in your skates, staring at your phone, trying to follow a tutorial? 2. Do you watch it in your free time and try to remember later? 3. Would it be better for me to do my lessons vertically or horizontally? 4. Do you want the back angle so it's easier to follow? 5. What if I did a horizontal view with side-by-side front and back angles? 6. Do you prefer the voice over with zooms and freezes or the miced up teaching straight to camera style? I know this is quite a few questions 😂 but help me help you! Answer whatever questions you feel the strongest about, or all of them if you feel like it. I'll be reading the comments and trying to improve my upcoming course content in this format.

I watch the videos and try to incorporate something that I’m not doing or that I’m not doing the way you show it. A back angle would be nice as would a continuous loop if you’re doing a dance move so we can just follow along and keep going.

I am flabbergasted that I found this! I’ve been skating on and off for 2 years and I’ve been stuck because I don’t have anyone who wants to skate with me. But I love skating so much I put them back on and I’m ready!!! I can’t wait for this community to grow!!!! Hiiiiiii let’s skate!!!
