Art Reject
When people ask me, ‘what art school did you go to?’ I tell them I didn’t. When I was 17, I was rejected from Cal Arts, the ‘art college of my dreams.’ I’d spent almost a year preparing a portfolio…only to have it being ‘not good enough.’ ( of course, this destroyed me) This surprises many people, because they assume I was always good at art. But I wasn’t always good. I just loved doing it, and KEPT doing it, whether it was shit or not. If you truly love something( or someone!) you’ll keep showing up for it. Good days and bad days. If you’re consistent, it will be almost impossible NOT to succeed. What’s your ‘rejection to triumph’ story? Post in comments 👇

When I used to sell posters tent to tent at festivals, I would be rejected all the time. For the most part, I was able to receive some level of respect for my work, even if they didn’t buy. But after 12 people saying no or that they didn’t even want to look, or insist that I didn’t make that and it was AI with disapproving looks on their faces, it got discouraging. Thankfully I’d just keep walking and holding my head high! Eventually people began recognizing me and my work and returning customers came back with true appreciation for my art and the work I put into selling it.
