To Carry or Not to Carry
Good late morning gentlemen, i am wandering how many of you gentlemen carry a handkerchiefs? I was raised to always carry one when I was growing up yes we had tissues then, ( No I was not around during the out house era). But I was raised to always carry if you needed one. But as I got older I ditched the concept thinking that I don’t need one. But I have had more times when I needed one but did not have one. Now granted the so called carrying one is not to blow your nose on it , if you need to but to have one on hand if needed to wipe some up, give to a lady, etc. But honestly there has been times that I need one because of sinuses and was not around or had access to Kleenex and I was on the verge of embarrassment. So I started carrying one years ago and this was before my gentleman transformation. Now for some of you we are not talking pocket squares, that is something totally different. Handkerchiefs are for putting in your pocket to have in case of an emergency, such as handing one to a lady, of maybe you spilled something on you liquid, you can use to clean it up immediately. Now you can buy them in packets for little to nothing I personally have over 50 handkerchiefs in my collection. Now some are more expensive, some are monogrammed, and some are what I call throw aways, meaning if I give it to a lady or a person in need I don’t expect it back especially if it is used or soiled. And I have so many of those it’s no big deal if I get it back. But now I carry two one nice for myself and one that if I need to give to someone and not expect it back I am okay with it. Kinda like I carry my good pens and I always have what I consider a throw away pen that if I lend it to someone and they walk off with it, or they need it longer than I am present I can say “ just keep it” and believe it or not that gesture speaks volumes, same it a handkerchief that i carry to give away if needed. So gentlemen do any of you carry a handkerchief in your EDC? If you how many do you have in your collection and do you have some more expensive ones that you carry?

I used to carry a plain white handkerchief when I was college aged, but nothing particularly fancy. I am talking about (literally) JCPenney or Sears quality stuff, that frankly was used more in case I had a runny nose! If you watch the movie, The Internship with Robert De Niro, he talks about always carrying a handkerchief, because the best reason to have one is to lend it to a woman. That is classic gentleman stuff, but I will admit that I have not picked up that particular habit again, although I probably should. 😂 I completely distinguish this between carrying a handkerchief, and wearing a pocket square, which I use purely for decoration and a splash of color. I think if I do start carrying a handkerchief, it will probably be initially with a sportcoat, because it is just easier to carry it that way, although back in college, I think I used to carry it folded up in my back pocket of my jeans.
Vintage Omegas - any fans?
Many years ago, when I was in college and poor in the 80s (😂), my sister was a sales person at a US mall jewelry chain called Ringmaker (which I don’t think exists anymore). I saw a beautiful Omega Seamaster with metal bracelet that I badly wanted to buy. Even with her amazing discount, I just could not justify the price, and never really got into wearing nice watches over the years. A couple years ago, I set out trying to find the exact model and through a friend who collected vintage watches, was able to find a second hand vintage watch dealer who found one out of Japan that was in just flawless shape.from 1988-89 as I recall. While there are some of the newer Omega models that I really like, I find the vintage one I have to be kind of unusual. What are your thoughts about vintage Omega, or even the new ones?

When I was in Japan in December, I looked at some of the newer models, and while it was beyond what I wanted to spend, they had some amazing models there which were particularly good because of the exchange rate, and the fact that I would not have to pay taxes on them. Will have to go back to that shop in the Ginza area on a future trip to Japan!

@Gavin McCollom - thank you. I should wear it more, but miss being able to count my steps and what not with my Apple Watch. Pretty much just wear it on special occasions.

Nice. Thanks for the tipoff.
Do you have a Holy Grail item of clothing you wish you had?
In the Watch Lover community we have a "Grail Watch" category to showcase pieces we'd love to have someday but something is holding us back (most often, cost) to actually get it. It got me thinking about the "grail clothes" on my list. Top of the list is a leather jacket. I've never owned a leather or suede jacket and have kind of always wanted one, and I saw one this weekend at an Allsaints outlet store that I totally fell in love with. The one in particular I saw was an espresso brown suede jacket (black leather version, which is also pretty nice, below) that's pretty slim cut. I'm on a weight loss journey and will kick myself if I pay up to get something that fits now but won't fit in 6 months, and even though it was on sale it's still a bit pricey (especially given that my fragrance collecting hobby is competing for my disposable income...) so I think I have to pass for now. But I've got my eye on it. You guys ever have an item of clothing on your grail list?

@S May - is there a particular one you were looking for? What kind of cost are we talking about?
What to do with phones?
Gents, I have a big phone, and I generally carry it in the breast pocket of my shirt if I’m not wearing a jacket. I’m finding that shirts with breast pockets are becoming more rare. How do you all carry your phones?

Not stylish per se, but I have an Otterbox phone protector and carry it on my left hip. Bulky but keeps phone secure and if (when!) phone drops it is undamaged. When on a date or similar, I leave the phone “holster” at home and put phone in suit/jacket pocket.
