Weekly Running Round Up
My running podcast reached 100 episodes last week Very proud of this Interviewed some very cool and inspirational people as well If you haven't checked it out, the link is at the bottom I had some messages from people whom I have interviewed as well Some of them are talking about the "lull" post-race See, doing a big race is a big deal Especially if it's your first marathon After this, it's normal to have a come down Because the big one takes a lot out of your life It's 4 months (at least) of training plus all the bells and whistles of the day This is a lot of time to devote to something So after the finish line, post-race buzz and medal Monday? There is a gap I get it, I have been there myself This is why every year I do 1 marathon, 2-3 halves, and Hyrox (as long as I can get in) Listen, you probably can't do multiple marathons per year But there is a risk with the "lull" You completely throw the towel in See, most people soothe negative emotions with behaviours that don't encourage fitness/running Eating, drinking, scrolling, and working These things fill the "gap" that training left And if you are lucky? After a few months, you catch yourself and get back on the horse If you are not so lucky or self-aware? That becomes years You start to lose fitness after a few weeks So, imagine what a few years will do? Listen, it's okay to feel down after a big race But don't let yourself spiral too much You still have time to train for an autumn marathon Definitely have time for a Spring one So, if you want help stopping the drift and getting back to it? Drop me a reply and let's chat. Until next time. John

Congratulations on the πŸ’― John! Get the β€˜lull’ β€˜come down feeling, but if there’s one thing I’ve taken from all your advice is consistency! Keep going in between the highs and lows. Honestly never thought I could do some of what I’ve achieved, but I’m pretty sure the consistency has been key, so thank youπŸ™ Good luck everyone in the heat this week πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ , alarm being set earlier πŸ₯΅

On target 4 runs this week, including easy tempo and threshold, I’m taking my very amateur running career very seriously πŸ₯΅πŸ˜…πŸ‘
