SOTD: Acqua Di Gio Parfum
This is my favorite of the line up of ADG. Fresh but with a bit of a peppery note that really gives it lift. The marine notes are always the trademark of the brand and coupled with the ginger note it makes it the ideal summer scent. However, the clary sage and rosemary in the parfum supply a spicy peppery bite that makes it versatile for deeper into the colder months. Its got much better performance than the original edt especially on clothes. This will be a big summer player…

Layering
Montagne is posting layering suggestions for summer scents. Considering I have both of these, I may have to try this. Thoughts?

Sounds fun! Like a sandy beach!
The Hawas rat race is getting insane..
I’ve been a big fan of this line from the beginning and currently have 7 flankers including the OG on my shelf as it is, but lately Rasasi has been releasing flankers three and four at a time it seems making it pretty dumb trying to keep up now. My eye however has been on the Exotic and Thunder flankers as of late but still can’t find them anywhere online at the normal Hawas price range and/or widely rolled out yet. So as I’m going through my daily Jomashop scrolling at home today I see these final two additions that I had no idea even existed and haven’t seen any info regarding these online whatsoever. I impulse bought the Overdose. They both say limited quantity and are around the normal price range for these bottles (sub$50). Neither is registered on Fragrantica either. Did I just strike gold with this mystery release. Stay tuned for first wears when it comes in. Smell great brothers.

Wouldn’t it seem better to roll ONE out a quarter, TOPS? They are saturating the market with these flankers and people are looking at the brand like “what’re you doing”? It seems counterintuitive from a business sense.

@Lon Chaneyfield absolutely and a dupe that is in obvious need of maceration. I don’t get the science behind it because the cold slows down aging rather than speeding it up. So, it confounds me how this helps. Unless it has to do with the cold reaction not speeding it up but making it smoother and more well developed by slowing down the maturation? SCIENCE!!

@Lon Chaneyfield perfect. Thank you Lon
Advancements In Perfumery (Givaudan)
Givaudan and the Idea of “Sleeping Nose Receptors” Givaudan is doing some really interesting work in the science side of perfumery. They are studying what some people call “sleeping” or “silent” smell receptors in the nose. The way I understand it, our nose has hundreds of smell receptors, but science still has not completely matched every receptor to the exact scent molecules that activate it. Some receptors are difficult to study because they do not respond strongly in the lab, or they barely respond at all. That is why they are sometimes looked at as “silent” receptors. Givaudan found a way to make some of these receptors more sensitive during testing. By doing that, they were able to wake up or detect responses from receptors that were not really showing activity before. A simple way to picture it is this: Imagine the nose has hundreds of locked doors. The scent molecules are the keys. Scientists know the doors are there, but some of them will not open in the lab, so nobody really knows what keys fit them. Givaudan found a way to make some of those doors easier to test, and now they can start seeing which scent molecules fit which receptors. To me, this is a big deal for the future of fragrance. This does not mean Givaudan is literally spraying something in your nose to wake up receptors. It means they are learning more about the hidden parts of how we smell. They are trying to understand why certain materials smell fresh, musky, woody, creamy, floral, calming, clean, addictive, or realistic. For perfumery, this could eventually give perfumers more precision. Instead of only relying on trial and error, experience, and artistic instinct, they may be able to understand more clearly why certain molecules create certain effects. That could help create better musks, better citrus effects, more realistic naturals, smoother woods, cleaner replacements for restricted materials, and maybe even fragrances designed around mood, comfort, relaxation, or sleep. In my opinion, this is where fragrance is heading: part art, part science.

This will go towards the development of mood fragrances. You feel down the fragrance will have elements that will lift you up. You feel “in the mood” your fragrance will shift to match it. Idk maybe… lol
