There are 2 types of improvising mistakes:
1) What the audience hears as mistakes 2) What you hear as mistakes

I thought there was only one mistake: not doing it?
Listen to this clip of Jaye Improvising
Listen to this clip of @Jaye Marsh and tell us, What about her playing might you like to emulate in your own? PS - Here's the replay of my Livestream with her last week!

Fabulous! 🙏🫶🏼
Do you wear ear protection?
When I asked the "ALL THINGS PICCOLO" group if they wear earplugs in just their right ear or both ears, one picc-ist mentioned it was more for the trumpets behind her than the piccolo. 😂 What about you? I don't play picc frequently, but when I play flute in the upper register - about high A or so - I like to be wearing an earplug or headphones in/on my right ear.

I’ve never played in an orchestra, and I’m definitely not a fan of piccolo, or really high notes. However, I have played in rock bands since I was a teenager (early 1970’s) and I was told many times by my Otolaryngologist that I should be wearing ear protection when playing. I have severe @ 80% hearing loss in my left ear and about 40% loss in my right ear. I wear hearing aids in both now. I was also told by my ENT (after suggesting it was time to retire from the band) that if I was playing in the band tonight, I can’t be cutting the grass in the afternoon. He said it was not the decibel level that caused the damage, but the length of time exposed to even lesser decibels. So I am now one of those “I told you so” proponents. Yes, you should be using hearing protection!
Congrats Sheri on your first public improv performance!!! at the Austin Flute Society.
Congratulations @Sheri Hudgins!!! You're a rockstar already even though this was your public debut as an improviser!! I was so proud of you for putting on a house recital a few months ago with your family, and now you're officially an improviser since you performed in front of "real people" haha - not your family!!! I knew you could do it though because I've had the pleasure of hearing you improvise in lessons with me for months now! Tell us, how nervous were you and how do you feel about your performance? I'm pleased with it. Your tone is sounding great! And I love that you get into the music and aren't afraid to move a little with it. Isn't it nice to play without a music stand between you & the audience???

I’ve decided to dive back into flute after quite a long layoff. Excited to be here and to connect with fellow flute lovers!
