Just a little story about my fragrance and a lady
A couple years ago, I met a lady through a group of friends. At the time I was wearing Givenchy EDP Boisée. This seem to have The Effect on her. We talked for a couple weeks, then we dated for a few weeks after, but learned that it simply was not the right time for us. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I got invited to a speed dating event hosted by a friend of a friend. I've never done one of these before, so in the spirit of trying new things, I accepted. I was told it would start inside a new brewery for an hour, then make its way outside once the speed portion was concluded. I am in central Texas, and it's still too darn hot. The Givenchy is one of my go-to fragrances, but I figured it would be cloying in the heat. I also did not want to wear something that would stand out and mark me as That Cologne Guy. I opted to wear something simple, and that would be Prada's L'Homme L'Eau. It's powdery with a hint of spice; I happen to love the dry down. One spray was all I ever use. It's a small world, and the lady I mentioned earlier happened to be there. We were polite and friendly--no drama. After the event (everyone stayed inside for the air conditioning) I ended up talking to a couple ladies. During the conversation, the lady I had once dated came over to join us. Time passed, and we were hungry. This lady and one other mentioned a steak house around the corner, so the three of us decided to walk over. No, fellas, this is not one of those stories! 😇 We turn a corner, and the other lady made a comment about smelling powder in the air. She said it smelled wonderfully pleasant. She looked around and realized it was coming from me. She leans in, smells, and compliments my fragrance. My friend commented she was aware I was a fragrance guy and leaned in to smell what I was wearing. She frowns and growls, "That is not THE cologne I like!" I laugh, said I almost wore it, but felt it was too hot. She says, "I don't care. You need to get rid of that powder crap immediately!"

@Robert Sheard She had a few other colorful phrases for it, but felt it better to exclude them.

@Raymond Reeves I have quite a bit. It's not one I wear too often, especially if the temperature is warm.
When it calls to you!!
Last night I was staring at my choices for today and I kept comming back to PDM -=Layton Exclusif. There is just something about this one that I really like. It almost doesn't matter the time of year. While this one may be considered more of a cold weather scent, I find on this spring days that it just gives me a wonderful feeling. It does start out more spicy with citrus, but the dry down gains powder and amber that I really like.

I like it, but I find one spray is more than adequate for me. Even in colder weather, I find it to be a bit more prominent than expected. When I do use it, I try to hold it slightly farther from me when I spray.

I fall for the van every time!
Silver Mountain Water by Creed
Silver Mountain Water by Creed is a crisp, refined fragrance that opens with bright citrus and transitions into a clean green tea and blackcurrant heart, evoking the feel of fresh mountain air. It wears smooth and sophisticated, settling into a musky, slightly woody dry down that fits seamlessly in both professional and casual settings. The scent stands out for its distinctive, slightly metallic freshness and understated elegance. While highly unique and upscale, its projection and longevity tend to be more subtle than some expect from Creed’s lineup. That said, it’s not a bad fragrance, however, I’m glad I decided to take a test drive by only purchasing a decant sampler.

I like it, but I do agree the longevity is short lived.
Lies We Tell Ourselves About Fragrance (and the compliment trap)
I swear the fragrance hobby is half smelling good and half mental gymnastics to justify the next bottle. I’m guilty of all of these, so I’m calling myself out too: - “If it’s expensive, it must be better.”Sometimes you’re paying for the name, the bottle, and the hype. Price can mean quality, but it’s not a guarantee. - “Niche always beats designer.”Not even close. Some designers are smooth, mass-appealing, and really well-made. Some niche is just loud, weird, and overpriced. - “Beast mode = quality.”Lasting 12 hours doesn’t automatically mean it’s good. A scent can be nuclear and still smell rough or one-dimensional. - “It doesn’t last on my skin.”Half the time, I’m just nose-blind. Or my skin is dry, and I’m spraying like it’s a science experiment. Meanwhile, other people can still smell it. - “If I can’t smell it, it’s weak.”This lie creates oversprays. Just because you can’t smell it doesn’t mean the whole room can’t. - “More sprays = more compliments.”More sprays usually equal more people suffering in silence. Compliments come from being in the right distance at the right time, not choking out a hallway. - “I need a signature scent.”You don’t. A small rotation is way better: clean/everyday, night out, dressed up, and one you personally love. - “This just needs maceration.”Sometimes bottles settle, sure. But sometimes… You just don’t like it, and you’re trying to cope. - “This smells exactly like ____.”A lot of scents share a DNA. The opening can fool you. The drydown tells the truth. - “I’ll wear it when the time is right.”Then you never wear it. If you like it, wear it—just control the sprays and match the setting. - “Blind buying is a skill I’m developing.”Nah, it’s gambling with extra steps. Decants > regret. - “I need every flanker for the collection.”Most flankers are the same movie with a different filter. You end up with duplicates and wonder why your shelf feels repetitive. - “This is ONLY for winter / ONLY for summer.”Most scents can work year-round if you adjust sprays and don’t wear a warm amber bomb in 115° heat.

I like compliments, but most of the time when I get a compliment (or even noticed), I can't help but wonder if i over sprayed. I hardly ever go beyond two sprays, though.
