The Power of First Impressions… and Occam’s Razor (re-up'd)
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya'! Let’s talk about something we all experience but maybe don’t think about enough: first impressions. Whether it’s meeting someone at work, a networking event, a date or just shaking hands with someone new, the human brain works fast. In a matter of seconds people are already forming opinions about who you are, what kind of person you might be and whether they feel comfortable around you. Now here’s where it gets interesting. There’s a philosophical principle called Occam’s Razor, which basically says that when people are faced with several explanations, they tend to choose the simplest one. Our brains are wired to take limited information and build a quick story that makes sense. Someone sees how you dress, how you speak, your posture… and yes, how you SMELL… and their brain quickly creates the simplest narrative about who you are! And that’s where fragrance quietly, but powerfully, steps into the picture. A well-chosen scent helps guide that initial story people create about you. A clean barbershop fougère might suggest confidence and professionalism. A warm amber or vanilla might come across approachable and comforting. A crisp citrus might signal energy and freshness. And without saying a word, your scent becomes another data point the brain uses to solve that “Who is this person?” puzzle. Think about it this way: when someone meets you, their mind is subconsciously trying to simplify the situation. Occam’s Razor at work. If you look put together, speak clearly, and carry a pleasant scent, the simplest explanation their brain reaches is usually a positive one: This person is confident, organized, and someone I can trust. Fragrance doesn’t do the whole job of course but it can absolutely tip the scales! So in a way, wearing fragrance isn’t just about smelling good. It’s about quietly shaping the narrative people build about you in those first few moments. A small invisible detail that can reinforce the story you want others to see.

Excellent post. I work with senior military leaders daily in a civilian capacity. While their uniform typically consists of camouflage utilities, mine is usually a suit and tie or a more refined version of business casual. I recognize that my appearance—including the thoughtful use of fragrance—subtly shapes how others receive me and influences perception, ultimately reflecting the standard and quality of the work I deliver.

@Renato Carotti Thanks Renato.
ALT. Brickell - Bond #9 Wall Street
I have several ALT fragrances which I enjoy. Now that the temperature is back into the mid-to-upper 80’s (I think South Texas doesn’t have a Spring, rather we go straight into summer) I decided to add these back into the rotation. ALT. Brickell Extrait de Parfum is a fresh-green fragrance built around crisp citrus, aromatic herbs, and a subtle woody sweetness that gives it a refined, modern character. It opens bright and energetic, then settles into a smooth blend of leafy greens, soft woods, and a lightly fruity undertone that feels clean, confident, and versatile for daily wear. This fragrance is widely recognized as an inspired-by interpretation of Bond No. 9 Wall Street, capturing that same fresh apple-green, aromatic profile at a more accessible price point.

@Lon Chaneyfield While I do not have the Bond #9 version, overall I've found the ALT fragrances OK, and are great for those who don't have a lot of money to invest into fragrances. The longevity, at least on me, is only about four-hours, but when you consider what you are paying for it, it's not that bad. While I have other fragrances I wear to work, I do use my ALT fragrances as a general purpose, running around fragrance.

🚨 New for 2026: Dolce & Gabbana K Elixir
Dolce & Gabbana G just added a new chapter to the K lineup — and this one’s giving darker, smokier, more magnetic energy. 👀 Have you smelled it yet? And looking at the chart… would you rate the intensity + best season the same way, or nah?

Always a wonderful product, thanks for sharing.
Prada Paradigme
I just got my nose on the new Paradigme Prada for men, and its bold blend of ambery woods, green bourbon geranium, and Calabrian bergamot creates a sophisticated, long-lasting scent that’s absolutely captivating. At $140, it’s definitely worth the price, offering a unique twist on masculine fragrance with impressive projection and versatility for the office and various occasions!
