WD: What part of writing your book has surprised you the most so far?
Open ended question this week. Figured this might drum up some new ideas on ways we can help this community out. :)

It was not so much about the writing. The biggest surprise was that the fonts on my computer cannot be used in a eBook. I needed to find an open source font that did not break the design.

I would probably use Bookvault (TGBBS) and some other sellers like BOD. For marketing I use my newsletter and YouTube channel. It would be a major set back for sure, since Amazon is the biggest seller for my book.

Back of the Book Summary She vanished at six.She returned at sixteen. But she didn’t come home. Ten years ago, six-year-old Emily Harper disappeared from her backyard during a family barbecue in small-town Oregon. Despite endless searches and fading hope, her parents never stopped believing she might still be alive. Now sixteen, a girl known as Sara Jones survives a devastating car accident in Texas. A routine DNA test reveals the impossible—she is the missing child the world forgot. Pulled back into a family she doesn’t remember, Sara struggles with a life that feels чужer than the one she lost. Overwhelmed by grief, expectation, and a love she doesn’t yet understand, she runs—only to fall into something far more dangerous. As Sara searches for freedom, she must confront a painful truth: not every place that welcomes you is safe, and not every home is easy to return to. Who Is Sara Jones is a gripping emotional novel about identity, trauma, and the desperate human need to belong—an unforgettable story of loss, survival, and choosing where you finally come to rest.

The first one. It has a strong portrait photograph with a straight intensive eye contact. I would have a bit more room over the eyes. That way the eye contact is even stronger. Now the text is too close to the eyes.

The world of discovery has changed dramatically and a lot of authors are still playing the game like it's 2023. This video will help you understand what to do to enter 2026 with your discoverability. Side note - One really cool thing my team built is an LLM discovery scorecard. We have been working on improving my score (original results noted in the infographic below) and we're just starting to roll out this scorecard for our clients so we can implement plans to improve their discoverability. What are you going to do next to improve YOUR discoverability?

@Lora Arbrador It uses javascript and if I understood correctly it won't help since AI does not read it or something like that.

@Julie Broad Yes you did, that is how I know...
Has anyone used Expresta?
Expresta also offers a hybrid model. You can print only 10 books, and they have a warehouse where they store them. The shipping is next-day, which is quite fast. They always keep the 10-book stock. It is a service in the EU. It could be a good place to sell your book if you have customers inside the EU. I took a quick look, and the issue is that their book sizes are not compatible with Amazon KDP. The book needs a new design to match the metric system. It could work for a hardcover version if there is a demand in the EU for your book. Any experience with the print quality, etc.
