68 and here we go again
I’m relearning at 68. And want to learn outdoors. My challenge is finding the right outdoor location. I’m thinking tennis or basketball courts. Are there other locations I should look in to?

Some parks have paved walking trails. Also, I visit the high school tracks and parking lots when classes are not in session. Put on all the safety gear. 68 year old newbie, Impressive! 😊
Hello again 👋🏻
Just thought I’d drop a little note here, reading all your posts is so very inspiring unfortunately I’ve done something to my knee, I’ve been to the doc’s.and need to get an xray, I hope everyone is okay with me liking your stories and occasionally making a comment, hopefully I’ll be able to tell my story once I’m on the move again, I’ve just had my driveway asphalted and it quite a long one so I at least have somewhere to practice as we don’t have anything close by that teaches roller skating, so self teaching here, anyway have a lovely day/night ☺️🌸🛼

Sorry about your knee! Happy healing! When you’re all better grab some knee pads and enjoy that private rink/ driveway! ❤️‍🩹 🙏🏽 🛼
Any tips on making skates more comfy?
I just got my first pair of skates (Riedell Boosts) and in just an hour of skating my right inner ankle is rubbed raw! I tried adjusting the laces and even with them fully undone it didnt seem to help much. The stiffness on the boot is nothing like the floppy rentals that Ive grown accustomed to. Any advice would be great!

I’m assuming you’re wearing socks 🧦 if not wear socks long enough to cover your ankles. I’m also assuming that you’re lacing them as you would ice skates ⛸️. 🛼 Roller skates, especially rhythm skates, are typically not laced as tight- for dancing purposes. Personally, I leave the top three holes/hooks unlaced. Some people do not use the top lacing area at all. Hope this helps and that your ankle heals quickly!

Just reread your post and noticed you have tried fixing the lacing. You may need to try another size boot if your foot is sliding around or a different brand skate that works better. I actually prefer my Sure Grip boot’s fit over my Riedell… Lacing on my Riedell Orbit
New L.A. Area Skating
There is a new long-term pop-up (so is that a stay-up?) at The Shops at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, on the SoFi Stadium campus. It's open for 2-hour sessions Wednesdays & Thursdays noon-10pm, Fridays & Saturdays noon-10:30pm, until at least the end of December. Outdoor skating on concrete, no walls to crash into. All ages welcome, but last session of the night is 21+ with themed music. Kids are $10.50/ session, adults are $15.50/ session, 21+ sessions are $19.50, skate rental is $3.00 / session. Tickets and schedule info: sunshineskatecenter.com I haven't tried it yet. I'm still not a strong skater so don't know how I feel about 0 walls. But since I work at Hollywood Park 😁 I'm keeping my eye on it. Insider tip: right now, participation is low. If you like an empty skate environment, now is a good time to take advantage.

Exciting! @Janine McCarthy Get out there while there are no crowds. Stay toward the center while learning. Even when you’re at the rink slower skaters should be toward the center of the floor, faster skaters closer to the walls. Some of the extreme skaters skate ON TOP of the WALLS (adult night and skate parties)! Long story short, no walls required! Roll on! 🛼 🛼
Wobbly doing dances
So it’s officially 9 months since I started skating. I have the forward down and backwards is coming along quite nicely. But I get super wobbly when I’m trying to do things like the Downtown or other dances on skates. Does this get better?? I was a little disappointed in myself yesterday at session because I can’t seem to make it smooth out when I was being taught the Downtown. I felt like I was going to fall while others make it look so effortless 🥺

Give it time and practice. You’re doing great with consistency. You will get there before you know it! Your legs will get stronger as you keep practicing.
