A person who is becoming increasingly important to me asked me this question in regards finding their special person. While I have no answers I can observe that as someone who was in a long relationship that I do the things that make me comfortable. I eat at places that I am comfortable in, so I tend to go places that are quiet and private where I used to enjoy the company of my significant other. Now that I’m alone my comfort zone hasn’t changed but those places tend to attract people who are in the situation I was once in. In short they are not available for long term one on one relationships. So I ask myself where would I be comfortable that others like me might also go and be open to connection. I think many of us “people reading this post” have chosen these online forums to make connections. I find it far more comfortable than sitting in a bar or a Dave and Busters looking for someone who smiles at me. We have all been around a while and know in person events are more immediate and potentially gratifying just with a lower chance of finding that person. Just my thoughts but I see these online events as phase one in getting in touch with the right people. And we are not doing it wrong just methodically and likely slowly when we all would prefer speed. We can’t completely rely on online events so I find sites like MeetUp are good resources for possible in person connections. I hope I said something intelligent and possibly helpful.
