Free Copy Editing & Proofreading (1–5 Chapters)
Hey everyone 👋 I’m offering FREE copy editing and proofreading for 1–5 chapters (or equivalent word count) for a few authors in this community. If you’ve written something and you’re not 100% confident about:• Grammar and clarity• Flow and readability• Small errors you might have missed I’ll go through it carefully and give you a clean, polished version at no cost. Why am I doing this? I enjoy helping writers refine their work, and I’m also looking to connect with more authors and build long-term relationships. If your manuscript needs deeper editing beyond the free chapters, we can continue the work professionally through my Fiverr. No pressure at all even if it’s just the free edit, I’m happy to help. If you’re interested, drop a comment or send me a message with:• Your genre• Number of chapters• What you feel your manuscript needs help with Looking forward to working with some of you.

@Angie Bates Hello Angie, I reached out earlier about your manuscript, but I’m not sure if my message went through, so I’m sending it again. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

@Angie Bates I’d love to have your mail then as alternative so I can reach you there and send you a message, since the message doesn’t seem to be showing on your end. But I love as you've asked the admin before you do so. Thanks.
Why are you self publishing? 🤔
Is there a specific reason? Are you on a time crunch? Are you a bit of a control freak and need to do it yourself? Is it about the money potential?

@Danielle Marietta I think it’s a mix of things, honestly. There’s definitely a bit of wanting things done a certain way, but also the flexibility and control that come with it. The time factor matters too, and of course the income potential plays a role. It just feels like the right fit overall.
Heavy on the Edits
I'm currently editing a middle grade fantasy and an adult fantasy book. Question for the editors in the group: How many times do you go through a manuscript before sending it back to the author for the first round of edits? If you are the author, do you know your editors process?

@Danielle Marietta Great question. It often depends on both the editor’s process and what the manuscript needs. In my workflow, I usually go through a manuscript at least twice before sending it back. The first pass is a focused read to understand structure, pacing, character arcs, and overall clarity. I’m identifying what the story needs at its core. The second pass is where I refine. I tighten the language, fix inconsistencies, smooth transitions, and leave clear, practical comments. By the time it goes back, the author has both edits and direction. From experience, authors get the best results when they understand this process. Editing is not just correction, it is shaping the story into its strongest form. A careful, multi-pass approach always delivers better work.

@Brandon Sanderson Thanks for asking. I’m actually an editor, not an author. I work with authors to shape and strengthen their manuscripts, from the overall structure and pacing to the finer details in the writing.
Self-Publishing Is Not the Easy Way Out
It’s the brave way in. You become the writer, marketer, strategist, and visionary all at once. It stretches you. It exposes you. It sharpens you. But it also gives you ownership. What’s the biggest lesson self-publishing has taught you so far? Or the lesson you ought to have know before now?
Uploading a Paperback to KDP - Full Process
I screen recorded the process of uploading a simple paperback to KDP (edited down to 13 minutes). This was for a poetry book written by Astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor. We filmed this to share at a "how to publish your book" workshop at the Analog Astronaut Conference (AAC) held each May at Biosphere II in Arizona.
