Unpopular opinion: A great book isn't enough to build a readership.
You can write an excellent book and still struggle if nobody knows it exists. Do you agree, or do you think a genuinely great book will eventually find its audience?

I absolutely agree! You can write a great book and tell no one and just hope it will reach readers...but how? They don't know it exists!

Be honest: what do you enjoy more, writing the book or marketing it?
I’ve noticed that some authors love the creative side but struggle with promotion, while others actually enjoy building the audience. Which side are you?

Writing is fun when the words are flowing. Marketing is fun when it's working. Both are not fun when I'm stuck lol. But if I have to pick, overall, marketing. It forces me to see my books in different lights and it gets fun sharing the stories and connecting with other authors and readers. Also, I love hearing from folks who have read them. And they usually find me from my marketing!

I'm Curious About the Spam Risk Alerts
How do I know when someone marked as high spam risk is actually spammy? I want to be able to connect with people, but I recently had a hard fight evading an intense scam elsewhere, and it took a lot out of me. I'd rather not again so soon. I also understand that spam detectors can sometimes misflag people, and I don't want to miss a good connection. Are there any best practices that I should know to navigate this situation?

I'm having a hard time with spam, too. For example, all three of the previous responses were flagged on the back end for me. 😅 But they do seem genuine, they just sound exactly the same. With that said, think of using this platform as a space to get tips and best practice advice from fellow writers. Take all the filler info and swipe past it. lol.

🚨Printing Platforms!
I just hand another major issue with IngramSpark and I’m curious to know your thoughts on the best current platform for self publishing and why??

I keep hearing more about Draft2Digital but it sounds like they have some big changes coming that will cost more to use it upfront.

@Beth Macy it’s their printing of children’s books. Putting two books under one cover. Printing illustrations on an angle so there white spaces on full spreads. But then I can order 50 and have no problems. It’s just not consistent.

I use KDP for ebooks because of kindle unlimited and IngramSpark for paperback and hardcover. Mostly because I have children’s books and KDP won’t do hardcover for them.
