Brain Health and Productivity Hacks - Game Changer for me - What do you do?
For years I spent so much time working working working and and ultimately not sleeping properly which led to some serious issues. I used to think caffeine and sugar were amazing and sitting around for so long ended up giving me some pretty nasty health issues psychologically and physically. Here's my protocol for the day that I'd like to share in case anybody needs some help. I'm not a doctor so remember that everybody is different and this may not work for you. 1. Wake up and spend about 15 minutes in silence and do breath work. Immediately drink a glass of water with a pinch of pink himalayan sea-salt under the tongue which will naturally give you energy. 2. Get outside and view sunlight and get your body moving for 20-30 minutes and eat a high protein, complex carb breakfast and Vitamin D3 / Fish Oil and a Multivitamin - (Athletic greens have changed my life) 3. Read or listen to something motivational in the morning that is positive rather than jumping right on to the computer. Wait at least an hour before you even look at your phone or computer screen. 4. Caffeine can be a great source of energy and focus BUT I'm only saying this as a former coffee drinker. Yerba Mate in its pure form or green tea with no sugar delayed at least until 10:00 AM or noon eliminates that massive crash in the afternoon. And won't disrupt your sleep if you drink it around 3:00pm at which point I definitely start to feel off. Try to keep it under 400 MG. Any more than that is terrible for brain health and circulation. ( D 5. Eat a healthy lunch and dinner with vegetables, protein and some rice. Fruit is a great source of vitamins and nourishment. Lastly good sleep hygiene has been a game changer. Set a time that you'll go to bed and a time that you will wake up every single day. In the evening it's important to go outside and take a little walk to get fresh air and watch the sun go down. An hour before bed turn off the screen, dim the lights, and take a shower just to wash the day off. Remember if it isn't on your schedule it doesn't exist. Work expands to fill the time allowed. You'll be amazed at how much energy you have by making these tweaks and doing a wind-down and wake-up ritual. What works for everyone else ? I'm curious. 😇

@Audrie Williams Appreciate you filling in the things I forgot to mention. I have all of that in my arsenal too. It makes such a difference. Melatonin, Chamomile/ Passionflower / Lemon Balm / L-Theanine and skullcap combined together in a tea knocks me right out within an hour.
A solution for hearing loss!
Hey everyone, for ages I am looking for a solution to compensate hearing loss. My hearing loss in my right ear is pretty severe and I always had the idea of coming up with a plugin solution to compensate the hearing loss - at least in the DAW. I never found a good solution and never had time to develop something similar but now HEARS Perfection has been released. When you open the plugin you can start a hearing test and based on the results, it creates a frequency compensation curve for you. It obviously does not replace a full blown scientifically done hearing test but it gets sort of close. If you are interested, I attached the video here. If you are a subscriber of the Plugin Alliance subscription, you get it for free.

What do you practise to keep fit?
This question goes specifically to (semi) pros in the Trailer/VGM and Film Music branche: What do you practise to keep your skills fit for your job? Do you do ear training? Instrumental practise? Mixing practise? Or do you just always produce tracks and improve through that? Curious what you musical routines look like :)

@Clem Hackmack I find that keeping a consistent routine of listening to music and practicing the piano really helps. Also staying consistent and writing and producing something every day even if it's something small will keep you going and keep you sharp. Make sure not to get distracted by all the new plugins that come out because they are SOOO tempting to use but can really interrupt your performance trying to learn a new GUI. Master repetitious boredom by doing things you always do that you know - and always have a learning mindset to expand your knowledge and skills. Ear training and scales also really helps. ALSO IMPORTANT - Remember to keep your volume levels moderate or low because you only have one set of ears :-) My audiologist said listen to music no louder than 70 decibels for 15 minutes which is still a lot. One Second of 120db causes permanent hearing loss especially when it's distorted. If you don't use it you lose it....the old saying goes :P
The Breathing Challenge
Hey everyone, I love sweets, pizza, burgers and beer but generally, I am also a big health nerd. The word "drastically" always sounds very aggressive and marketing-ish but if there is anything that seriously drastically has changed my life, it's two things: Cold showering and breathwork This week, I wanted to focus a bit on how to breathe. It may sound weird but if we focus on how we breathe it is most of the time not that deep, not relaxed and not with a lot of attention, ... just always enough to not pass out 😂 There is a very specific breathing technique that can change your entire life. Let's get a moment to figure out how it goes as it is very important to understand the specific but simple steps: 1. 30x breathing in an out, not more than 1-2 seconds per breathe 2. After the last breath, hold it for 60 secs or longer. If you can't make it to 60 - that's totally cool 3. Your next breath is a deep inhale, then hold it for 15 seconds 4. Then start again with 1 and do it for a cycle of three times. You can of course stop earlier. Tingeling in your finger, oversaturated of oxygen may happen but it's totally ok. If you have doubts, just do 1. with 10 or 20. ALL FINE! If you are interested in a little guide, Wim Hoff, is THE expert in guiding you through this in one of his videos. PS: This is not some esoteric bs, it does a lot of positive stuff to your body and it's all related to breathing techniques working for more than 3000 years :) It's also one of those videos being worth to read the comments. In case of doubt or if you already have health problems, you may want to check with your doctor. Did it? Tried it? How did you feel afterwards?

@Sean Walsh Thanks for bringing this up as well. After the mandatory lockdowns and quarantine situation in the United States, I spent sooo much time inside also think it's important to mention that pulling all nighters and working long hours put me in the most psychotic state I can ever think of being in. One day I woke up and decided that what became my new normal was actually nearly killing me. Over time my mental health suffered dramatically and It's really important to be around people and socialize in person even if it's to talk to a real person ( Not on social media). In this modern day and age it's so easy to get locked in to technology and social media / watching videos and reels but over time it just drains your dopamine and energy levels and after a while nothing was enjoyable anymore (not even working on music was enjoyable). What did i do to change my situation? Well, lets just say pharmaceuticals have their place and medicine can be great when properly monitored and adjusted. Through meditations, breathwork, brisk walks, and a complete change in my sleep schedule and diet - I was able to lose 70 pounds by stopping the medications I was prescribed which looking back did more harm than good. I took a more holistic approach with the help of a doctor and doing my own research. Scheduling non-negotiable time in the morning to sit in silence and do deep breath work, followed by walking in the morning 2-4 miles - delaying caffeine, cutting out terrible sugars and carbs, eating healthy fats, protein and a more balanced diet with supplements I was actually able to recover from depression and anxiety and pretty much every problem I had by implementing these basic things that our bodies are governed by. Movement, Sunlight, Human Interaction, Eating Healthy. What a concept right? Take care of yourself and you'll be amazed at how much energy you have and my family and friends asked me what I was doing and that my demeanor and energy completely change (back to normal). Thanks for sharing this because Isolation can actually lead to loneliness which can actually kill you. #FACTS. I hope people can benefit from this. Also people who work night shifts are at a higher risk of developing certain cancers. Something to think about. Life changing actually :-) SLEEP, BREATH, EXERCISE AND EAT BETTER. A healthy lifestyle is very important for energy and productivity. Take care of yourself and everything else tends to fall in to place.
Big-Tight Drums?
Hi All, I was wondering what your favorite Cinematic Drums are? I'm looking for something with big petals particularly. I have Damage 1&2, I just picked up Ferrum Free addition, I'm looking for something along those lines. Thank you all!

@Sean Walsh Everyone covered pretty much everything. What about https://www.audioollie.com/la-modern-percussion ? This is one of the most incredible libraries as well. For the price it's kind of outrageous. Definitely look through the "Walkthrough" and "Groove Engine" videos...I think you'll be impressed.
