What do you practise to keep fit?
This question goes specifically to (semi) pros in the Trailer/VGM and Film Music branche: What do you practise to keep your skills fit for your job? Do you do ear training? Instrumental practise? Mixing practise? Or do you just always produce tracks and improve through that? Curious what you musical routines look like :)

@Dilara Köseoglu Notes re super useful but not a gatekeeper imo, having good ears, imagination and gut instinct can get one pretty far

@Mário Bengalita yes, have been going through 3 tracks from every single genre the past year analyzing key, timbre, scales etc. Taught me a lot for also my own music. Right now im applying the study template from this video, super interesting as well:

A Few Simple Things To Feel Better
Everybody’s different, so take this list as inspiration rather than hard rules. Some things might click for you, others not so much — and that’s totally fine. ☕ Coffee One or two cups are usually enough. If you need more and still don’t feel awake, the issue probably isn’t “not enough coffee.” Also, caffeine hangs around in your system for hours — so if you’re waking up in the middle of the night (and it’s not the kids), your late coffee might be the real culprit. 🍳 Breakfast Choices Starting the day with protein instead of just carbs helps avoid that blood sugar rollercoaster. A carb-heavy breakfast can make you crash, leaving you tired or dizzy… and then we reach for more coffee. And while fruit juice often sounds “healthy,” the sugar spike is usually higher than you’d expect. To put it into perspective: a Coke Zero plus a Vitamin C supplement would probably be the healthier option — not as an actual breakfast choice, but just as a comparison. And for the record, sweeteners are among the most researched food ingredients out there, and no, they don’t cause cancer. ☀️ Vitamin D3 For me, this is the ultimate mood booster. Most of us don’t get enough sun (especially in winter), and Vitamin D is tied to energy, immune system, and yes — your mood. Feels like turning the light switch back on. 💪 Creatine Not just for gym rats. Creatine is one of the most researched supplements out there, and it supports your brain just as much as your muscles. It can help with energy, focus, and even long-term cognitive health. Pretty crazy that almost everyone could benefit from it. 🌬 Breathing Most of the time we breathe shallow without even noticing. A couple of slow, deep breaths during the day can reset your nervous system and bring you back into the moment. Simple, free, and surprisingly effective. 🚶 Walk, Don’t Run You don’t have to run marathons to stay in shape. Running burns through glycogen (your quick energy stores) first, and yes, it can also dip into muscle if those stores are low. Walking, on the other hand, keeps you in a lower intensity “fat-burning zone” and is much easier on your body. Sure, running burns more calories in less time, but for long-term health and consistency, a simple 20-minute walk a day is more than enough — and something most people can actually stick with.

great list alex! ont thing i d like to add are powernaps: What works really welll for me is to get up, put in a few hours of work/practise, then nap for 20 minutes (max!) and go about my daily business (mails, students etc). Helps with neuroplasticity and I wake up completely refreshed despite having worked quite a bit
Odd timings?
Hi everyone, do you have any tracks in odd time signatures? I’ve written plenty in bands over the years and occasionally use them in orchestral pieces too. Sometimes it’s just for fun, other times it’s to fit the visuals of a scene. I’d love to hear your odd-timed music if you’re open to sharing!

Hey, thanks for asking this, shows you put a lot of thought/value here! :) 1) Right now my biggest challenge is getting into youtube as a teacher, I have realised that the format everyone is using ( making youtube tutorials speaking the whole time and pitching a course etc) really drains me mentally, its just feels cringy and inauthentic to present myself that way but I dont know how else to do it in order to get skool running at least on a self sustaining basis. 2) I think I struggle with this issue specifically as Im an introvert and living in a Studio teaching some people and composing feels much more alligned with my personality then to be a shiny/extrovet YT teacher. Also as of now Video making/editing takes a lot of time/energy that I dont have then for other things ( that might be smarter to do? ) 3) I think to maybe have a section in f.i. mindset asessing how you can do youtube as an introvert, or do studio time as an extrovert, in short how to navigate professional fields that do not allign with you core personality and most importantly how to know when to stick to stgh and when to drop stgh d be a great help.

@Alex Pfeffer alright I ll try to give it a shot leaning into the more musical side of it whilst checking other successfull channels making content in a way I can relate to more. Think I ll stick to it for the rest of the year whilst constantly analyzing/adapting ,at which point I should have eliminated the mental strain of doing stgh new and be in a better position to asess if I wanna go further with this path. Ll also look for ways to merge my current 1o1 business with skool so they can sustain each other and ideally I ll have more possibility to pick only the best students for 1o1 while guiding the others to the group calls/montly skool payment. Ideally I ll have more time and more money by then to invest in VG music composition and my personal artistic projects
