Are your needs unconditional? 🫶🏻
It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. We can be so quick to set high standards for other people… while quietly lowering the standard for how our own needs are met. 🙈😬 Rest gets postponed. Boundaries get bent. Creativity gets squeezed into whatever scraps of time are left. So I’m curious… What would it mean if your needs were unconditional? Not earned. Not justified. Not only met once everyone else is sorted first. 🥰 Have you ever thought about this before? And creatively… what changes when your need for space, play, expression or rest is treated as valid from the start? Broad question, I know. But sometimes the broad ones open the biggest doors. 🌿

My needs, my family’s needs especially, are unconditional, which I use my full-time job and my wife used to, before health issues, to support our family. I do use my creativity, even though my YouTube channel has been on hold, to continue my own community no matter what “issues” happen, as I am simply creating a legacy, not a business for over 2 years with my work, which I freely share with whoever wants to learn. I respect everyone, but especially myself as a dad, husband, provider, really not for me specifically except on YouTube and Skool.
🌙 A Little Curious Thought… Friday the 13th🍀
I woke up this morning thinking about something rather curious… 🧐 Why do people say Friday the 13th is unlucky? It turns out the story is a bit like a patchwork quilt stitched together over centuries. 🧙 The number 12 has always felt like a “complete” number in the world. 12 months in a year. 12 zodiac signs. 12 hours on a clock face. So when 13 appears… it’s like a little ripple in calm water. One step beyond what feels neat and orderly. There are old stories about it too.📚 In Norse mythology, a mischievous guest named Loki arrived as the 13th guest at a banquet… and things went rather badly wrong after that. 🥷 And in the Last Supper, there were 13 people around the table, with Judas the betrayer often considered the thirteenth. Even the day Friday had a gloomy reputation long before the number joined it. In medieval times it was often the day of executions, and in Christian tradition it’s the day Jesus was crucified. Then history added another shadow… On Friday the 13th of October, 1307, the Knights Templar were suddenly arrested across France. Many were imprisoned or worse. So over time these little threads wove together until Friday the 13th became the spooky date we know today. 👻 But personally… I rather like it. It feels like the sort of day that invites a little curiosity. A good day to slow down, notice the small things, maybe make a cup of tea, open a sketchbook… and see what stories the day might hold. ✏️ So I’m curious… Do you see Friday the 13th as unlucky… or just another beautifully ordinary day waiting to surprise us? 🌿

The number 13 is a prime number but that’s not an issue. There is also no floor 13 in some buildings I believe. Did Friday the 13th start before the horror movies, it must have. )hockey mask anyone?)

Today would have been my dad’s 86th birthday. ❤️🙏
Today would have been my dad’s 86th birthday. I lost him in September, and as you can imagine, days like today invite a lot of quiet reflection. The very first Smidgen Post has been created with that feeling in mind. This artwork is about reflection pausing, remembering, and holding space for the people who shape us. It reflects his life, and the way I still feel him with me, especially when I’m making art. The pic below is of him and me on his 70th birthday and amazingly he flew me round our local area in the plane behind, it was an experience that will stay with me forever 💜✈️ If you choose to join Premium, this is what you receive: - ✉️ The Smidgen Post a monthly piece of original artwork, sent with care - 🌿 A slower, more intentional creative space to return to each month - 💛 Artwork made with meaning, not mass-produced, always personal This first print is already waiting inside Premium, ready to be claimed. It feels really special to be sharing this one it’s gentle, thoughtful, and full of heart. If it resonates with you, you’re very welcome to join us. Sometimes art says the things we can’t quite put into words. A smidgen of calm, Kate
