Do You Love Someone You Can Never Have?
If you are reading this, you probably know exactly what it feels like to secretly escape into your dreams of a better life - a life with him or her, who is, unfortunately, completely unaware of your feelings and even worse, perhaps doesn't even know you exist. Because that person is completely unreachable. You might know them from a TV series, social media, a movie or it's a fictional character in a book, but in your heart, you feel like they are the one for you. And so you are riding this emotional roller coaster, swinging wildly between euphoria and despair, hope and agonizing pain. Maybe you’ve spent a long time wondering if anyone could ever truly understand how exhausting that constant “What if…?” loop in your head really is. What if he/she would finally see me? What if I could meet them? What if ... I want you to take a deep breath and hear this: You are not alone with this immense longing in your heart. For a long time, the world hasn’t had a common language for this experience, which is why it can feel so isolating. But there is a word for it: Limerence. But hardly anyone talks about this kinda of love that feels so real, but instead of euphoria, it leaves you empty and with a deep, deep longing. Limerence is a state that pushes you into a painful gap between daydreaming and reality. It makes you feel like your happiness depends entirely on someone who might not even know you exist, or someone you only know through a screen. But here is the most important thing you need to know: This is not "unnormal". Limerence is nothing bad, even though it has been portrayed like this in lots of information spread across the internet or in books. While it can feel like a "trap", Limerence is actually a deeply human expression of your emotional depth. It is often an unconscious wake-up call from your own system. It actually shows you a path back to yourself. And what you are currently missing in your life. And it's not that one person. You are in love with the illusion of who they are and how they make you feel about yourself in your head.
