💚💚Cutting Day – Two Very Different Stones ⛏️💎
First up — Nephrite (Jade) This stuff does not cut easy. Nephrite is incredibly tough—not just hard, but resistant to breaking—which makes it a challenge on the saw. But once you get into it… that deep green is unreal. The polish potential on this piece is going to be something special. Second — what I believe is a Dendritic Agate (possibly from the Yukon) Silica-rich and full of those wild, natural “branching” patterns. Those dark lines you see are dendrites—usually manganese or iron minerals forming inside the stone. No two pieces are ever the same, and this one’s got some serious character. Two cuts, two completely different experiences: One fights you the whole way (nephrite)💚 One reveals a hidden landscape (dendritic agate) That’s what makes this addictive.🪨 Where do you think this Nephrite sits on the Mohs hardness scale? ⛏️💎

I hadn't considered the mohs scale. But this is blowing my mind. I love finding cool rocks and gemstones where ever I go. However, they are in stores. To find it in the wild is so incredible to me. Once I get through my big project, I want to share with you all my collections, I just haven't had time to yet.

@Sheldon Evans I really like the skool format. I would like to have more interaction on it, so I am learning how to engage people in new ways.

Tuesday Prospecting Tip: How to Look for Gemstones 💎Like a Pro
Hey community!👋 Tired of just buying pretty stones? Want to hunt your own gems in nature? Here's a quick, beginner-friendly guide to gemstone prospecting that actually works: Do Your Homework First📚 Research the geology of your area (or where you're heading). Different rocks host different gems — think quartz veins for crystals, ancient riverbeds for sapphires/rubies, or pegmatites for tourmaline and beryl. Apps, local rockhound groups, or sites like (mapplace2 bc) if you're located in BC canada. Prime Locations to Search📍 Streams, creeks & riverbanks (especially gravel bars and after heavy rain — water sorts the heavy gems for you). Dry riverbeds and alluvial deposits. Old mine tailings or disturbed ground (construction sites, roadcuts, quarries — with permission!).⛏️ Exposed rock faces and slopes where erosion has done the hard work.⛰️ Key Techniques Surface scanning: Walk slowly, get low to the ground, and look for anything with unusual color, glassy/smooth texture, or flat crystal faces that catch the sunlight.💎 Screening/sifting: Use a mesh screen in creeks or dirt to separate heavier stones. Panning: Swirl sediment in a pan — gems sink because they're denser.👍 Follow the "float": Spot a promising piece on the surface? Trace it uphill to the source. Pro move: Bring a UV light — some gems (like certain fluorites or diamonds) glow! Essential Gear (Keep it light) Rock hammer, gloves, safety glasses, spray bottle (to wet rocks and reveal colors), hand lens/loupe, buckets/screens, sturdy boots, and plenty of water.💧 Bonus Tip: Respect the land and leave no trace.🏞 Who's tried gem hunting before?💎 Classroom 101 coming soon. 🚩 Drop a comment! What's one spot near you that might hide gems? Let's swap tips. 👇 #ProspectingTip #GemHunting #Rockhounding #TuesdayTip

I did years ago. Always keeping my eyes open in certain places. A park ranger once told me to carefully look around rail road tracks because they use the left over gravel from mines. He showed me some of some great finds he had that way.
🐣🐰💎 Happy Easter Monday show Your Rocks! 💎
Asking AI to make me a photo of Aquamarine in Tourmaline — a rare and beautiful combo where the calm, ocean-blue energy of aquamarine meets the bold, grounded strength of tourmaline. Nature doesn’t just create crystals… it creates stories in stone. Out in the wild, finding a piece like this feels like striking balance — water and earth, calm and power, all locked together over millions of years. 👉 Your Rocks Question of the Day:If you found this in the field… what would YOU do with it If it was real?? Keep it as-is? Cut and polish it? Turn it into jewelry? Or sell it? Drop your answer below 👇 and tell me WHY — I want to hear how you think as a rock hunter! 🔥 Bonus Challenge:Have you ever found two minerals growing together like this? Post a photo or describe your find — best one gets featured in the next show Your Rocks! Or just ask AI to create a photo of your dream specimen. Let’s keep building a community that learns, explores, and shares the passion for the land. 🌲⛏️

I'd keep it as is or clean it up a bit.
Community Post (Weekly Schedule)
Here is the weekly content schedule for our community. This keeps things simple, consistent, and gives everyone something fun to look forward to each day. Monday – Mineral Monday & Coffee ☕Start the week by sharing cool minerals, crystals, or rock finds. Tuesday – Rock Tip Tuesday ⛏️Prospecting tips, field advice, tools, and gear talk. Wednesday – Educational Post 📚🎓Learn something new about geology, minerals, prospecting, or rockhounding. Thursday – Behind the Scenes 🌲Personal stories, adventures, and what goes on during digs and exploring. Friday – Rockhound Finds of the Week 💎Community members share their best finds from the week. Saturday – Live Dig Saturday 🪏⛏️Field trips, live digs, prospecting adventures, and outdoor exploration. (Working in progress) Sunday – Workshop Sunday ⚒️📹Rock cutting, polishing, lapidary work, and shop videos. Quick Community Update As we build out the weekly schedule for the community, I just want to let everyone know that weekend posts may sometimes change. Since a lot of the content involves field trips, rock shows, prospecting, and outdoor digging, the timing can shift depending on weather, travel, or where I am exploring that weekend. I’ll always do my best to stick to the weekly schedule, but there may be times when things move around a little. I’ll also be organizing the community page more soon so everything is easier to find. Instead of everything being in the general discussion, posts will start going into the right sections (education, finds, tips, workshop videos, etc.) so members can quickly find the content they’re looking for. The goal is to keep the community clean, organized, and easy to explore while we continue to grow together. Thanks for being here and being part of the journey. 🌲⚒️⛏️🌍
