Does this ever happen to you? It happens to me at least once a week... Today I'm editing a chapter with this passage in it... **** As a kid, my grandfather never asked about academics or talent. Work ethic was his measure of success. My father shared those values, and with each birthday, he found a new way to measure them. “Okay, Marty, you’re ten now,” he said on my birthday. “If you want a toy, you go buy it. Okay?” For 10-year-old me, that was a bummer. Now, I credit my ability to suffer in silence to those Gnoble men—your grandfather and great-grandfather. Truth is, I’ve always enjoyed a hard day’s work. **** This is fiction, but also inspired by my own experience. I wrote this over a year ago and happen to be editing it today. Then today, I looked at my Facebook memories and saw a post I made 13 years ago, the day after my grandfather passed away. [see attached] Crazy right? This happens to me once a week. Like the exact thing I'm working on (no matter when I wrote it) comes up quite specifically. Just wondering if this happens to anyone in your writing? Is it because our work is so all-encompassing? Either way, it's so fun!

Something similar happened to me while I was at church one day. Our pastor was preaching on overcoming and he gave the Greek word for overcome/prevail/victory — Nikao. And my prodigal sons name is NikAiro (but he goes by Kairo). And it seemed like a sort of confirmation at the time.
Help me choose a new cover?
Hello fellow authors, creatives, and support network. I recently made the very bold (and scary) decision to spend the time and resources on a deep, line by line edit of my manuscript. My goal is to unpublish from Amazon as an exclusive title and re-launch on IngramSpark for greater visibility, reach and distribution options. It will go back up on Amazon as well, just not as an exclusive. With all that being said, I also commissioned a new cover from an artist on Fiverr. They were wonderful. The process was smooth and seamless. And the artist delivered more quickly than the deadline. What I'm asking of you all is to help me narrow it down to one or two options from five. I already weeded out 18-19 other options they sent that just don't vibe with my story. I'm adding a poll so everyone who wants to can vote for their favorite. I'm also going to add the blurb so you all can get a feel for the story to aid in your choosing. 3,757 years of peace are ending. A Bandit King rises on stolen lands, an Empress is murdered, and the Scales of Amat’ Aga begin to tip. In the Empire of Glythuss, the Raven Princess survives a shattered soul—left broken by a loss she cannot escape. As whispers of rebellion spread across Lodronus, distant lives are drawn together: The Consort of Glythuss must answer to a King… or the Deities.A Royal Guard seeks redemption in the wake of tragedy. An advisor without a homeland struggles to find purpose in a quickly changing world. And a forgotten boy, raised through cruelty and neglect, must choose who he will become. The fate of Lodronus hangs upon the Scales. Something ancient is moving in the shadows. And Chaos is waking.

I am a torn between scales with fire and lighting and scales on the blade of a sword. At first I chose the sword, but upon second look the color choice is too dark and may b gets lost in the background and shadows. The simplicity and the color choice of the scales is why I switched.
Ideas for Critique (Exposure Therapy)
As founding members, I'd love to get your ideas on how to best approach critique. Exposure Therapy is my cheeky name for it, but it's sort of accurate too. It's a place to put a vulnerability out there. Let me know in the comments if you have any ideas on how best to approach it. Here's my current vision... One thing I want to avoid is the barrage of passages that get ignored because there are so many spamming the feed. I want critique to be a bit more focused and clean so no one feels they're being ignored, if that makes sense? On the other end, if someone keeps getting feedback over three weeks, that's not helpful either because most likely they've already addressed the changes they want to make. I also want to open it up to not just chapter critiques, but concepts, pitch lines, full outlines, marketing/covers, and the parts we really need focused, human help with. What I imagine is that each week – or biweekly – there are one or two new submissions for critique, and then when the time expires, I will remove the those posts and add the new ones in the Critique tab. Down the line, I imagine live critique sessions where, as a group, we present something, others can give their immediate feedback, and it becomes a useful discussion. I imagine this could be super helpful for fleshing out ideas or even full book concepts. Whattaya think? Let me know in the comments!

I don’t really know much about the structure of Skool or its classrooms. Maybe helping others with challenges in their pitch lines, marketing/covers—these type of things that often require less explanation in order to get feedback can be covered under themed “day-of-the-week” posts. Or live sessions. @Rae Merritt idea, I think, answers what you’re looking for better than this, here are some examples of “therapy themed” sessions posts. Marketing Meltdown Monday Cover Crisis Tuesday Plot Hole Support Wednesday Tagline Therapy Thursday Pitch Panic Friday This could allow for group participation in posts keeping the feed active. I don’t know if I’m making sense. I am also a part of another Skool group and they do “live” readings of a set number of people who signed up ahead of time. Those that attend offer feedback at the time of reading. I’ve never been but people in the group seem to like it. I can see how @Rae Merritt ‘s suggestion can help give more thoughtful feedback because not everyone can “think” on the spot like that.

@Timothy Colomba it’s your world!! But something like that. Or just a random rotation of the mood you’re feeling! It can even be a rotating monthly/weekly thing. Like the first Monday of a month is Marketing Meltdown but the second Monday is Mission Analysis. And so on for each day of the week. And drop categories that get little to no participation or mix it up as you feel.

In Session - Live Writing
@Timothy Colomba thank you for creating space where we can write. I got 525 words written that would not have been written tonight if I wasn't trying to make it to this live. This is my personal challenge to the other writers out there to join when you can - I was late but decided 30ish minutes was better than no minutes!
