Lucky to be alive
Hey folks. I was involved in accident May 3rd and today was first day I’ve seen the pics of my bike and I feel lucky to be alive. I was lane splitting on 101 freeway in Los Angeles after dark and I have no memory of before/during/after accident. I had a camera mounted to bike but that must have flown off somewhere. I sustained open book fracture to pelvis, torn ligaments in right knee, fractured fibula, clavicle, scapula, and a brain bleed. I’m on mend now with two more surgeries to go and I might be back home and learning to walk in 4-10 weeks. I was wearing gear including an airbag, but I did have on only tennis shoes. I think it could have been much worse but I’m looking forward to replacing the bike and getting back on, perhaps with less night riding, and more safety knowledge. I got the ZX6R end of December 2025 and put 12k miles on it in those 4 months. Here’s before picture from same day and the aftermath. I’m happy to be alive 😁

Oh my!! I wish you a good and easy recovery. Good thing you have a possitive view on your future despite of what happened. Not many people would have said that they are planing to walk and even ride again, but would focus on the pain and the accident. Keep your mind on ahead and all will be good!
About exhaust
I was wondering if i should chenge the exhaust or not on my 750 hornet in the near future. I know that changing for an aftermarket will improve slightly the performance but i dont really care about that. It's not like i'll be running laps and i'm far from that level. The only reason for me is the sound for personal preference. But it's not sounding that bad as it is with the stock. I was thinking about Arrow exhausts for that deeper rumbling (and it's cool) but i also dont wanna be souper loud and obnoxious. Also is it better to get the full system exhaust or only the slip on? What's the difference other than the catalyst?

@Elad Best I’m sorry this will get very mechanical 😅 So if I want to preserve the engine for as much as possible, aside of the maintenance oil changes etc, will the correct tuning mapping help?

@Guy Hollen thank you for the comment, that cleared any questions I had!
Tip toe'ing HARD
Side of the... " tow truck" wanted to friendly strike my leg just a little... All when leading a motorcycle group on the way back, fortunately rider behind me kept a good space cushion so I was able to "reverse" as much as needed. Just having a little too short legs 🤷‍♀️ It was closer than it looks 🙈

Good job on the tipi steps reverse 😆 I would have been grunting and struggling to do that
HAHA Confidence needs a little smack sometimes
I've been so proud of myself for several small achievements and one of them is making it up a hill called "Todt Hill" (pronounced Toad Hill like the frog) from a stoplight. It's basically a hard right, almost u-turn but going up a steep hill from a flat area. At the hill's peak, it's the highest point on the Atlantic coast from Florida to Massachusetts (little tidbit of useless info lol). Making that turn with the bike was a big fear of mine in the beginning but I've always managed it without ever dropping the bike or stalling. Well yesterday I ended up stalling on a small incline of my driveway! HAHAHA Started getting nervous and was like "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit" as I started rolling back. I managed.. didn't drop the bike, but what a smack-down-of-confidence it was. LOL We need that every now and again I think. It's good for keeping us aware of our own limitations, and where we need to practice more. But how ironic that I can make it up that huge hill no problem, especially when I first started.. now here I am my third season and my driveway kicks my ass. LOL It's a new bike, and I'm still getting used to it, but still... knocked me down a few pegs. Needless to say, tomorrow I'll be practicing in the driveway, from a stop, for a bit. lol Glad it happened in my driveway and not on Todt Hill!

Incline turns are a fear of mine too cause that’s how I stalled, fell and cracked my knee 😅. Now I approach them very focused and careful. I think when we know something is hard we execute the maneuver well, but when we relax on something we’ve done every single time (like the driveway) that’s when something might go wrong.
Even these hours payed off
I had a realisation that i've been doing everything subconscious from the start. It's now the 2nd week since i started riding my daily route to work (it's a ~10km heavy trafic center city route). As a new rider i thought trafic would scare me. But i've been riding defensively from the very start thanks to the hours and hours i've watched Dans videos and teachings. Started watching almost 10 months ago, before i even got my licence and my bike. And all of that got into my subconsciousness. I can see AND hear in my head "side of the vehicle", open lane, road hazard ect. and avoid every possible threat. I have conditioned myself to notice the key things to be safe. Brake just in case and then accelerate out of it. And all of that without activelly thinking about it. So i find it easy to get into motorcycling. Of cource i know that i have a lot to learn and build up my skills and experience as i'm very green, but i love it so much. Thank you @Daniel Tolomei for your time and effort that you put into your videos and the knowledge that you share! You made it a lot easier and enjoyable for me and i'm sure for a lot of other people as well!
