What type of games do you feel most comfortable developing?
What type of game mechanic or genre do you always gravitate toward? Do you find yourself making puzzle games, strategy games, story games, or leaning towards specific game mechanics? Do you fight against your natural tendencies or lean into them?

I would say I dream of making story based games but it always causes scope creep for me and I get too perfectionistic about it. It would take me forever to finish one. So I tend to find a strong mechanic and build off of that. I personally find Tetris to be a perfect game. It’s just very elegant in its simplicity. So I try and replicate that same simplicity these days

I do a combination of all of those actually lol, I make what I can work with text and then when that runs out I get free assets and I make my own janky pixel art and I put squares in place for what I’m too lazy to do. I do all that until I have time to make artwork myself lol

@Mathew Georghiou when I have a small window, I just take care of adding or fixing little pieces of code I know that I’ll need down the line
New Week, New Victories!
You got any progress updates from your games this last week? Fixed a bug or maybe added a new feature? Even the smallest victories can be fuel us to push this next week!

My core gameplay loop is almost fully complete, then it will be mostly art and fine tuning gameplay

Welcome! Introduce yourself + Share a pic of your game!
Thanks for Joining our community! The first thing I would love you to do is make a introductory post! 1. What you like to go by! 2. What are you working on (if anything) 3. What are some of your goals, in making tiny games? 4. Have you made any games already? Where can we find them?

Hi, go by Josh. My career is in Cybersecurity / IT but my passion is games and game programming. I’m making (you could say) a tiny card game. Right now, it’s called Dog Cards. It’s going to be fully featured but I think that as far as scope it’s much much smaller than what I’ve made in the past. I’m making it in Godot. I made a mobile game from start to finish around 10 years ago or so called UMI. I’ve also done lots of little projects in between that I never released. One was a bubble bobble RPG. I mostly worked in Unity for those games but now I’m migrating to Godot after being inspired by your work on Substack! I also love animals and bugs and animated films!
