a question for n8n experts :o]
hello I hope this is an appropriate forum to post questions about n8n. I'm stuck and hoping an expert in this group has a suggestion for me. both chatgpt and claude came up short (stuck in endless loops that aren't helpful) so either it can't be done or I need to find the answer somewhere else. I have an http node that sends a lead to GHL, and then another node that checks GHL to see if it's been imported so it can grab the lead ID to be used downstream. the problem is it takes an inconsistent time for the lead to populate in GHL. my best workaround was to just set a wait node for like 5 minutes between upload and checking the lead. anything less than that has occasional errors. what I'd like to do is set a much shorter wait period (like 10 seconds) and have a loop that checks basically every 10 seconds until the result is not null. the problem is I want to avoid any chance of an infinite loop so I thought to add a counter via a set node. unfortunately, the http node (that checks for the lead record in GHL) strips all set nodes so I can't increase the counter value. there has to be another way right? like maybe a max tries on a loop or something that I'm missing? I know I've seen other workflows people have built that has loops like that but I don't know if they were http nodes. I tried doing a merge with a set node before the http node but since the poll loop is after the set node, the loop ends when it hits the merge the 2nd time and only gets the one value. hopefully that makes sense... if anyone has any advice I would *greatly appreciate it* thank you for coming to my Ted talk...

@Hammad Khan the problem is after the wait it runs the http node to check if the lead exists. And everything I do before that gets wiped out. I’ve tried doing attempt counters multiple ways and it errors out every time.
anyone know how to use n8n to update a custom field in GHL?
I have spent hours trying to figure out how to take data from n8n and update a custom field in GHL and keep hitting dead ends. here's what I've tried so far: 1) using http node. it keeps giving me an auth error (yes I checked 1,000,000 times everything is correct) 2) using the native HighLevel node. it will only work when I can look up the contact by email address (even tho it says you can look up the contact by phone OR email, if the email is blank it will give me an error). if the contact doesn't have an email address (or you don't have that data in n8n), that doesnt' work obviously. 3) using the native HighLevel to first getcontactID, then using another HighLevel node to update the contact. this worked to find the contact and I can update the record such as the name or email, but when I try updating the custom field it gives me an error so I'm all out of ideas. it shouldn't be this hard. is there some sort of bug in GHL?

@Vincenzo Russotto thanks yeah I was able to do a workaround by sending the payload to a GHL automation to then set the custom field. I just wanted to do it in one automation instead of relying on two, since it seems like it should be possible either through an http node or the native highlevel node...

@Grace Robinson thank you that's actually what I already tried. it shows that the workflow worked but the customfield value is always empty...
🚀New Video: The Simplest Way to Automate Scraping Anything with No Code (Apify + n8n tutorial)
Want a deeper discussion on setting up automated lead scrapers? Let's chat here. Want to scrape websites, social media, or generate leads without writing a single line of code? anyone else had any issues with accuracy using the google maps scraper in apify? I ran a search for a type of home services contractor in a population of 100k and it only came back with 30 results, and more than half of them were completely wrong. like it was returning utility companies and companies that are clearly no at all related to my search query. when I used phantombuster it came back with over 100 that were pretty darn accurate. is there a different maps scraper that you all are using that's actually... accurate?
SOLVED: need help -- check for duplicates
guys, am I crazy? I have literally spent 5 hours with gpt and claude helping me and still have not figured out this most simple thing: take a new row (unprecessed) from google sheets, and check to see if the name is a duplicate in the rest of the sheet under the name column. I cannot... for the life of me... get this to work. can anyone please help me weigh in? I've ended up with this SUPER overcomplicated node that does work to check for duplicates, but it only runs once even t ho there's a loop there. so if I have 20 new names, it'll run once, check for a duplciate, and then stop. I feel like this entire thing is just wrong...

just thought I'd share that 20 hours into this I finally figured out a solution. I don't even remember exactly how it works but basically I ran a 2nd google sheets node that did a search for the dedup key and if it didn't find it (so the record was unique) it would come back empty. then I did a merge node after that with the original record and a code node to count the number of items. if it was just 1 then that meant it was unique. if it was more than 1 that meant it wasn't unique therefore a duplicate. the rest of the flow was the same, based off a simple if branch. man that took awhile to figure out. gpt and claude kept getting stuck in this loop of trying to use .all() in a run once for all items and couldn't seem to get past that. anywho, doubt anyone else will probably ever need this but it's out there if you need to do a duplicate check in a google sheet.
