๐ŸŒฟ What This Community Is Actually For ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿ’•
Iโ€™ve been clarifying something important behind the scenes โ€” what this space is actually for. Broadly: I support adults who care for children. More specifically: I support parents, teachers, and carers of neurodivergent and deep-feeling children. More precisely: I support adults who are living with constant emotional intensity, demand avoidance, meltdowns, shutdowns, and power struggles โ€” and who already know that traditional behaviour advice doesnโ€™t work for the children in their care. This community is especially relevant if pressure makes things worse, not better โ€” whether youโ€™re at home, in a classroom, or in a care setting. My work sits at the intersection of: Nervous-system understanding 20+years professional childcare and early-years experience including SEN (Special Educational Needs) Lived parenting experience with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) and practical, relationship-protective strategies that translate across home and settings. I donโ€™t teach compliance. I donโ€™t use behaviour charts or reward systems. And I donโ€™t frame adults as the problem. The core problem I help with is this: ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œI understand this child better โ€” but I still donโ€™t know what to do in the moment.โ€ Grounded Roots exists to close that gap. This is a space for adults who want clarity, confidence, and realistic tools โ€” not trends, not scripts, and not performative practice. If thatโ€™s you, youโ€™re exactly where you should be. ๐ŸŒฟ

This week I released a free ebook in my own community, and I thought it might be helpful to share it here too, in case it supports more parents, carers and educators. โค๏ธ Itโ€™s called โ€œThe Secret Map of Executive Functionsโ€. Itโ€™s a very visual, storyโ€‘based guide to things like: planning and getting started, working memory (why they โ€œforgetโ€ midโ€‘task), time and transitions, emotional regulation. I wrote it with neurodivergent brains in mind, but itโ€™s also for the adults around them, parents, teachers, therapists, who are trying to understand whatโ€™s happening underneath the behaviours. Instead of a clinical PDF, I wanted it to feel like an illustrated map you can see and talk about with your child, your partner, your students, or even just with yourself at the end of a hard day. If you feel it could be useful, youโ€™re very welcome to download it and use it in whatever way supports your family or your work with kids. Thank you, Ellie, for holding such a beautiful space here and for letting me share this with your community.โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ“ฅ Direct download link for the ebook: The Secret Map of Executive Functions

๐ŸŒฟRoot Drop โ€“ Something That Stopped Me This Week๐ŸŒฟ (#4)24hrs! ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ โญ
๐ŸŒฑ Something that genuinely stopped me in my tracks this weekโ€ฆ I walked in expecting background noise or a game. Instead, my 7-year-old was watching a video on Einsteinโ€™s theory of relativity, moons, and black holes ๐ŸŒŒ No prompting. No agenda. Just curiosity doing what curiosity does. It reminded me how often the world quietly surprises us when weโ€™re not rushing past it. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Root Drop: What surprised you this week? A moment, a thought, something you noticed, something that made you pause. Big or small โ€” all of it counts - doesn't need to be child related ๐ŸŒฑ

Water that falls from the skyโ€ฆ amazing! As you said we can get so preoccupied and in a rush or complaining about things like the weather and how it derails our plans - or we get intellectually and explain it away like our knowledge has power over it because humans have developed radar to predict the weather and know of evaporation, states of matter, names of different clouds. Blah, blah, blahโ€ฆ. But how about the fact that water is falling from the airโ€ฆ what a miraculous thing we get to experience
