Angela Bofill singing "Under the Moon & Over the Sky."
April 1, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) - This is Angela Bofill singing "Under the Moon & Over the Sky." Harvey Thompson is the only male jazz vocalist to sing this fantastic song. If you have not heard Harvey Thompson's version do a search on YouTube for it. You won't be disappointed.

Jazz vocalist along with pianist Hiroshi Tanaka at jazz session in Azabu, Tokyo
March 24, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) - Jazz vocalist Harvey Thompson at a live jazz session in Azabu, Tokyo at a small corner jazz cafe. It was a lot of fun as a few Japanese came in off the streets to watch Harvey sing with the fantastic piano playing accompaniment by Hiroshi Tanaka.

A Rare Live Recording from Jazz Vocalist Harvey Thompson
March 9, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) - Here is a rare live performance from jazz vocalist Harvey Thompson recorded at the New Mexico State University Southwest Jazz Festival in 1992. The recording, transferred from the original cassette, features Thompson performing with pianist Bill Gaff, bassist Dan Gallardi, drummer Mike Matthews, and a saxophonist who may be Mark Lohman or Mark Holman. This live recording captures the energy and spontaneity of a working jazz ensemble performing at a regional festival in the early 1990s. Unrelated to the singing in the link below but the image is of Harvey along with John McLaughlin Williams, the acclaimed African American violinist, conductor and composer and a four-time Grammy nominee. I just listened to this concert and it is wonderful. I have no idea why Harvey isn’t a huge, international star.

Jazz Vocalist Harvey Thompson Changes His Attitude Towards Rain
February 8, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) - As the biographer of jazz vocalist Harvey Thompson, I have decided to present some of the material I have tentatively wrote to describe Harvey Thompson's experiences over all these years. The most memorable was from his two visits to Glasgow during the Glasgow Jazz Festival during the mid-90s. Here is what I wrote using Billie Holliday's version of "Come Rain Or Shine" to set up the story. Be sure to listen to Billie Holliday sing while reading: "Recalling how many times over the years Harvey walked out of train stations, bus terminals and air terminals and taxis, he was often discouragingly met with heavy rains. After meeting Mady though, he suddenly took on an entirely different attitude towards rain. It wasn't about the inconvenience or drudgery walking in the rain this time. It was the romantic idea of being in Glasgow with this knockout woman he was now in a relationship with. He saw raindrops on the taxi, the type of car where the doors opened in opposite directions, with him opening the door of the taxi for Mady. Harvey was wearing a new overcoat he bought because of the constant foggy and misty rain Glasgow is so well known for. He came to appreciate rain rather than detesting it like in all of his previous experiences, much like the opposite sentiment expressed in 'Come Rain or Come Shine,' written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer for the 1946 musical St. Louis Woman. The song, which Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra all delivered in stunning versions, like with Harvey's stunned senses being with this beautiful woman."

I remember when Harvey came to Glasgow, and, as I said before, played at Bourbon Street, supporting Carol Kidd, who, herself had supported Frank Sinatra on his second visit to the city in 1990. Harvey also went to a jazz gig on the Saturday afternoon and sang with, I think, the George McGowan Big Band with singer Ffiona Duncan. My friend, Gordon Badger played drums with the band and gave me a photograph of Harvey singing that day.

@Tim Robert as far as I remember there was only one stage but I could be wrong. I let Harvey know when she passed away. I didn’t know they had met in Detroit. Interesting.
Harvey Thompson and Cathy Kosins sing a duet "You Hit the Spot"
February 7, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) - This is really a remarkable recording of jazz vocalist Harvey Thompson and Kathy Kosins singing "You Hit the Spot" written by Cole Porter in 1935. This was recorded a number of years ago in Detroit. I hope Harvey's jazz community on Skool can listen to this MP3 audio file because it is a really light hearted fun duet to listen to. Cathy Kosins still performs today. She has a long list of performances through 2023–2025 at jazz clubs, festivals, and arts centers across the US and internationally, including venues like BLU Jazz+ in Akron, Michigan and others.

I first saw Harvey at Bourbon Street in Glasgow and I was knocked out. I have followed his career since and we have become friends. What a voice.
