Sweet without the Sugar
I was coaching a small group of clients a while back and several of them had the same request of me : to come up with something they could add that tastes sweet but wasn't sugar. That was a serious challenge. So, in evaluating that request, I realized that smell was just as important as taste. And half of our food experience is expressed in smell, so making something that smelled sweet was crucial. What sweet smells do I like? Vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, pretty much all the "warm" spices. So the challenge was also to create a powder, not a paste because it should be something easily used to sprinkle onto fruits, yogurt, buttered toast, etc. Vanilla powder was the answer. It had an incredible smell and taste, and was just made from whole vanilla pods. Voila! It all came together. Everyone seems to like it. This spice can also be a tea; infuse 1/2-1 tsp per cup of very hot water. Let steep for 1-2 minutes and enjoy. Perfect Fall Cup. Let me know what you think! Sweet Spice Mix use this spice mix to replace sugar 2 TBS vanilla powder 1 TBS ground cardamom 1 TBS ground cinnamon 1 tsp ground allspice

Post Halloween
Anyone have post Halloween candy hangover? Was it worth it? I have a problem with Cheetos. If I start eating them, I will eat the whole bag. And even if I measure some out for myself and put the bag away, I will still go get more. I guess that is my one snack that I have a weakness for. So, I just don't have it around. Maybe once a year I will allow myself to have some. And when I do, I allow myself to enjoy it. I will fully embrace that eating moment. And it will be fulfilling for about 20 minutes... But there is something to be said for powdered cheese and MSG together. That is definitely a flavor booster! I did not have any Cheetos just in case you are wondering. Right now I'm intent on fulfilling my fitness goals and Cheetos just don't fit in with my meal plan right now. Do you have any snacks that you have a weakness for?

What are you making for dinner?
and how are you making it nutritious? I have some beef sirloin I'm going to braise and I have some fresh Gai Lan (Chinese Leafy Broccoli) and a roasted pumpkin I will serve with it. Grass Fed protein, simply sautéed green vegetable, and positive glycemic starch in the pumpkin (also loaded with Vitamin A & E). I would call that a balanced meal. What are you making?
