I came across this concept when George Mack was on a Chris Williamson podcast earlier this year, a great compliment to this essay. Love the Wright Brothers story he tells
WAY MORE PROFITABLE than negotiating PERCENTAGE!
Lemme share something that is a damn sight more profitable than negotiating DOWN a percentage... HOW (and what) you can actually NEGOTIATE UP ā¬†ļø instead of fighting to NEGOTIATE a % DOWN ā¬‡ļø Plus... Negotiating UP ā¬†ļø gets IMMEDIATE YESSES to partnering up. Partners LOVE THIS! Like with a red hot LOVE! ā¤ļøšŸ”„ You will love it because it will help you put more deals on the board... ...and make a heap more money! With that said... Context and the deal specifics matter a LOT...I am loathe to give "copy and paste" tactics... But... Here's the foundation: Find out what price they'd be okay with if you were to sell a volume of them. or... If it's one item: Find out the lowest price they'd take and not be mad... Then... (If you feel you can.) You let them know you think you can get more by positioning the offer correctly and in the process of surveying while you're selling the offer... And you ask to keep the amount ABOVE what they want. Here's how it looks in a convo (again, please do not copy and paste for every sitch). šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡ Me: I see you've sold your SEO course last year for $500. Assuming we could sell 50 or 100 courses in a whack, what would be the lowest price you could sell them for without being mad at me? Them: LOL. I'd really just like to make $10,000 on this campaign, more than I'm concerned about the item price. Me: I see. That helps. If we sold 50 at $200 that'd bring you $10k. I think that's doable. If we sold 100 that'd be $20k. I still think that's not unrealistic given the size of your audience and your reputation. So would you be okay if we offered it at $200? Them: Yes, I'd be super happy if we got the $10k mark and ecstatic if we did a bit more. Me: Cool. So, here's what I'm seeing. I think you may dig this. I think I can tweak the positioning on this offer and get $1k for it. If you're okay with it...Let's sell it for $1k. You keep $500 and my end will be $500. Then we only need 20 sales to put $10k in your bank account and I think that could happen pretty quick. If we hit the 50 sales you'd have $25,000 and if we ding the bell at 100 sales you can take mama on a vacay or something with $50,000. I'm down to do my best to make this happen if you are?

Man, this is huge 🤯 I’ve walked away from a bunch of deals because I was stuck thinking "they’re not seeing my value. I've screwed this up somewhere and lost investor frame. They're just seeing me as a commission only sales rep - so their loss!" I can now see how I can flip the script. Negotiating up instead of fighting over a percentage makes the deal way more abundant, and way more fun for both sides!
New partner agreed.
Agreed a new partner today, test with an auction. 10 mins into the coffee date she says what else can you do I don’t want to do just the auction with you. I’ll break down how I found her as well and everything in this post. A couple of weeks ago I went to a coffee shop with a pad of paper and a pen headphones and wrote down a list of everything I’ve bought course wise, all the niches I like, all the niches I know. Then all the people I have spoken to in those niches. I went and got a list of all these people by searching on google, Facebook, x the lot. Got their details and started messaging them. This lady has 175k socials, 70k email list. Highly engaged audience. I sent her…. Name, I think I can get you at least 50 leads for your painkiller course, all before noon. Reckon you could listen to an excited brit share a 3 min loom on how? She replied: sure I’ll bite, tell me how? Sent her a loom video explaining an auction, she replied it’s genius. She kept messaging me telling me how excited she was to actually speak with me. Had the call today, after ten mins she says what else can you do I want you doing everything you can for me - you are somebody who knows their shit. Wahhhhh hold on lady, you don’t get to marry me today…. You gotta wait. Let’s start with the auction. She’s got a big sale planned for next month which she’s scrapping and wants to do the auction instead all agreed and good to go. Now I just gotta get the ore auction posts and emails out and then see what we auctioning off. Here’s to a cracking end to 2025 and hopefully a good start to the new year.

Awesome breakdown buddy - seriously helpful. That list of courses/programs you’d bought from is exactly how I’ve found my best partners too. Mind sharing the quick outline of the Loom? What specifically grabbed her? I sometimes get a bit too hyped about the campaign and create resistance, so it’s cool to hear she got excited about the auction idea before you even got to coffee

From Webinar to 24 hour Auction instead…
I reached out to a past supplier (another Aussie šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ) who has a PPL (Pay Per Lead) agency. Turns out he has just recently started a Skool community to teach his PPL model based on his $3m / year agency. A free group (219 members) and 11 in a paid group ($79/mo) His plan was to run a webinar in the group to sell his 7 week bootcamp to build your own $50k-$100k PPL Agency… (at $790). (maybe sell 7-10) Then Get testimonials. So it will be $2k next time (Q1 next year) 10 enrollments $20k USD not bad. The new plan ā€œYou could sell it for 2990 right now With 15, 20, 25 buyers… Not bad And you get to keep selling at that price EVERY time… If you sell 10 - That’s 29,900 At 50% you $15k Or You’d need to sell 19 at $790 To make the same cashā€¦ā€ He thought this was a much better idea and he didn’t know it was going to be an auction yet. I didn’t tell him the process until after the webinar. I turned the webinar into a Q&A Wrote 2 posts to promote it 18 showed up No pitch - just how a PPL agency is a better model - no retainers And how he make $3M in sales per yr with 2 VAs… His model and structure and the 9 step roadmap to get to $50k-$100k/mo PPL. A poll (scale of 1-10) - Then Questions I DM’d attendees to find out what was stopping them from getting to $50k/mo. I learned a lot about the audience what they wanted and what was stopping them. Which gave me the language for the auction offer… The Q&A was last Wednesday the Auction started 3pm Monday… it came together pretty quickly The Auction Offer Your $50k-$100k/mo PPL Agency 7week intensive + 12 months support. After the first hour the bid was at $2k. Now, It’s at a little over $2300 - with 12 hours left to go. Approx 30 bids - with about 18 bidders so far. 5-6 serious players over $1500 I’ll ask the winner if we can offer the top 3 bidders the same or similar for the same (winning) amount. I’ll DM the top half to two thirds a direct offer - A very similar program in a GROUP format. Estimate - Approx 10 pay $389 depending on the auction outcome….
