Chapter 2 made me pause and reflect on how often I've manipulated my team by using incentives like a fancy lunch as motivation to hit milestones when we've had to deal with multiple priorities đ. Sinek doesnât say these tactics are bad, but he makes it clear they only drive short-term results. So starting today I chose to inspire rather than manipulate!

And no, thereâs absolutely nothing wrong with a fancy meal đ Sinekâs point (as I understand it) isnât that incentives or rewards are bad, but that they shouldnât be the primary driver. When people are clear on the why and feel connected to it, appreciation like a nice dinner becomes a celebration, not a transaction. So if your team already believes in the work and feels valued, that fancy dinner sounds well-deserved. Enjoy it đ

Itâs so interesting that starting with the âright questionsâ would outdo the right resources.
I just started my âchunk/batchâ reading and Iâm already intrigued by how the Wright Brothers with little resources outdid Samuel Pierpont Langley in flying the first plane. Samuel had all the resources from the government and private individuals. The difference between the brothers and Samuel was not luck, work ethic or motivation, the difference was their why. What have you found interesting so far?

In direct response to your comment @Gloria Esoimeme , Iâm inclined to say that those who consistently ask âwhyâ and truly understand it are the ones who build lasting legacies. The âwhyâ helps calibrate our motives and intentions, ensuring that what we build is meaningful, enduring, and capable of being passed down through generations. Just like two people who decide to invest. One puts money into a Ponzi scheme hoping to get rich quickly, while the other buys a piece of land that may appreciate over the next 20 years. The outcomes canât possibly be the same đ
