small space practice on thin rug?
I was considering getting a very thin, industrial-type rug to use for small space practice in my garage. One reason is that the car drags in a lot of water and even if I mop it up, the floor is slippery. The other reason is I thought it might be easier to start with less friction when trying to learn new moves like strut walk. Anyone had any luck with doing something like this?

Hmm maybe like those rubber gym tiles. I just think carpet might be dangerous. What if it bunches up and makes you fall?

Seeking advice!
Hi Skate Family! For more than 10 years I’ve wanted to learn how to skate, but I kept putting it off and the desire to skate never left. Fear just kept me from starting. Not anymore. I’ve been learning from the best ā€œSK8SHOT YouTube channelā€. My skates are on the way, and I’m ready to begin. I’ll be sharing my practice—falls, progress, and all. If you have advice, please drop it below. Thank you!

Technically still a newbie myself. Just passed 1 year skating. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

@Pierre Joseph it’s been going good! I feel like I might be better if I wasn’t teaching myself but I feel like an ā€œadvanced beginnerā€ .. progressing on to intermediate this year. This year I will be working on pivots, toe manuals and start so spins
Skate styles
Anyone ever just sit down and write out a little bit about all the different rhythm skate styles? I did šŸ˜‚ I will put some here and please join in and add things that I have missed! NY/NY - seems based in house music. Lots of pivots, trains and trios, figure 8’s, footwork on the 2,4,6 and 8 beat. Chicago- JB or James Brown. Footwork. Four corners, Big Wheel, Buckey Walk. ATL - real swaggy, ryding. Leg crossing, claps and stomps on the beat. Seems faster than the other rhythm styles except for …. Philly - Fast backwards looking over their left shoulder is their claim to fame. Cleveland - jumps! Stomping on beat (literally mesmerizing), group skating. Striding. Detroit - high kicks, intricate footwork using their toe stops, group formations. Cali - LA based. Sliding on fibers. Smooth. I like how they customize dress shoes into skates. St Louis - couple and ballroom skating. G slide DMV area - snappin. 180 degree pivots on one leg. Footwork. Like how there is someone else skating with them to support the ā€œsnapā€. What’s your favorite style???

@Marisa Sa same!! I love to watch style calls at events. Eventually I need to narrow down and learn a style. I’m leaning towards St Louis .. even though I’m in New York State

@Albert Schepis lol!! I sat down and put this together myself. It’s fun to watch YouTube and the videos on the different styles too!
