First skate in new skates
As you may know from my previous posts, my new skate setup includes wifa boot, powerdyne Arius plate, roll line Giotto 57mm wheels and beagle bearings. I took them out to a rink yesterday and so far I’m digging them. They are slightly lighter than previous skates (stock Chaya Melrose premiums with rollerbones teams wheels and Riedell 265’s with Powerdyne pro reactor plates), and a much slimmer profile. I noticed a slight change in agility but I think that has a lot to do with slimmer wheels as the Arius plate. I could pivot, pivot & land into manuals, and spin more easily. I’m excited to see where these skates take me. Short clip of transitions/pivots: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJ7aLwayPA8/?igsh=Zm0wOG5ja21rcDN4

Changed my cushions and wow!
So I worked on my skates a week ago. I cleaned my bearings, got me some new wheels, and I changed out my cushions. Wow! My skates feel so different now. Changing the cushions completely changed the responsiveness. I love being able to lean in and turn on my edges, but it came with a bit of instability and my balance isn’t as good as it was before. I’m trying to figure out if I should go back to the firmer cushions or try and get better balance with the lighter cushions. Is it all a matter of preference? Also do you all tighten your wheels all the way? One video said to completely tighten wheels and then do a quarter turn back. I tried that, but I feel like it made my wheels roll back too easily when I try to balance on one foot. Since I’m new, I’m trying to figure out what I should focus on getting better with vs what is an equipment issue. The possibilities seem endless. For added info, I skate outdoors on a soft (78A) wheel.

I think this is my fav adjustment. Once I realized how much I favored this over others, I updated all of my set ups. I’ve gone too soft initially and quickly realized I needed to scale back. I’ve heard the rule is cushions SHOULD BE based on the skaters weight but I’ve also heard pros say ITS ALL PREFERENCE. Have fun with it, safely that is😉
2026 SKATE RESOLUTIONS?
My personal new year starts the day I was born but this 2026 I want to start skating everyday. Not sure if I do 30, 60, 90 or 365. Anyone else starting any skate resolutions or skate goals in 2026?

@Jay West give yourself some grace. You’ll hear very often it’s not the skate, it’s the skater. There are very many advanced skaters who have nylon plates. You got this Trust the process. 👍🏾❣️

@Isabel Athina Mitzen oh my God the skatemates. I feel like the little ppl own the floor when they are out there. So carefree as it should be. I try to stay in the middle but still end up getting run over. 😁
