Going to the Tampa area in a few weeks. My best friend and I are both frag heads. I’m planning on getting at least one niche fragrances while I’m there. Do you all have any recommendations of stores in that area. Port charlotte-Tampa/sarasota
SOTD / New Acquisition
005 Riviera Absolue / Bon Parfumeur — just arrived last evening and after a test sniff I decided to make it my SOTD. This stuff is gorgeous, bright citrus off the top with the finger lime giving a not-too-sweet toned down lemon drop feeling balanced by a very subtle/earthy tomato leaf. Neroli and a spicy ginger combine with the cardamom to bring in more green lemongrass/earthy attributes and the dry down of black tea/olibanum turn this a shade darker while the sweetness stays but moves to the background. First reviews online are crying “Imagination Clone” but nothing could be further from the truth, or maybe a distant cousin of L Homme Ideal Forte, but that is one I haven’t gotten my nose on, so I can’t say … This could make it into my summer-early fall line up as a signature scent easily … First wearing - performance 9+… the first 2-3 hours great projection ( at least 6’ ) by hours 4-5 a good scent bubble ( at least arms length ) then not quite a skin scent by hour 9

This a new house for me. I am definitely going to be checking them out.
Another designer or wait.
I have purchased a lot of designer fragrances in my very early intro to this lifestyle. I went from 3-4 to 24 in a few months. I promised myself that my next purchases would be niche. However I got a sample of coach pure platinum and wore it yesterday to the gym. I absolutely love the fresh soapiness of it. I can really see myself making it my main summer scent. Should I hold of like I planned or just add one more designer.

Growth within the Fragrance World.
In my experience, some people never really grow in the fragrance hobby because they get comfortable and stop exploring. They stay in the same lane year after year, buying the same types of fragrances, chasing the same trends, and listening to the same opinions without ever branching out and developing their own taste. A lot of people get stuck in the designer and clone world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with designers or clones—I started there myself, and they can be a great way to learn. The problem comes when someone never moves beyond them. If every purchase is just another variation of the same popular DNA or another clone of a fragrance they have never even smelled, their fragrance journey can become very limited. They may end up owning dozens of fragrances but experiencing very little of what perfumery has to offer. Many people also judge everything by the same standards: projection, longevity, compliments, and value for money. Those things matter, but they are only part of the picture. There is also composition, quality of materials, creativity, balance, transitions, emotion, and the skill it takes to create something unique and memorable. Some of the most interesting fragrances in the world are not necessarily the loudest or longest-lasting. Another issue is that collecting can become more important than learning. Owning hundreds of bottles does not automatically mean someone has developed their nose. Sometimes a person with twenty carefully selected fragrances has learned far more because they have spent time wearing them, comparing them, studying them, and understanding what makes each one special. That’s why I believe that if you join a fragrance lover community, it should be about exploration and discovery, not just validation. The goal shouldn’t be to have everyone wear the same fragrances or chase the same hype. It should be about learning from each other, discovering new styles, exploring different fragrance families, understanding perfumers, and expanding your horizons. Whether that’s designer, niche, artisan, indie, vintage, or even a well-made clone, there is always something new to learn.

This is so true. Even in my short time in the hobby I’ve tried some things that were completely different than what I thought I liked. I’ll be the first to admit that I did get many fragrances in the same category before branching out.
SOTD: Angels' Share, by Kilian
This evening is my first time wearing Angels' Share by Kilian, and I completely understand why this fragrance has such a devoted following. Released in 2020 and created by Benoist Lapouza, it opens with cognac, cinnamon, and oak before moving into tonka bean, praline, vanilla, and sandalwood. My immediate impression is that this smells rich, warm, and almost edible without crossing fully into dessert-fragrance territory. The boozy cognac note hits right away, but it’s smoothed out by the cinnamon and vanilla into something that feels incredibly cozy and luxurious. Honestly, it smells like sitting in a leather chair near a fireplace with a glass of something expensive in your hand. Definitely a fall and winter fragrance for me — evenings, holidays, dinners, cold-weather dates, or just relaxing at home on a chilly night. It’s strong too, so a couple of sprays feels plenty. First impression: really impressive, and probably one of the most approachable “boozy” fragrances I’ve tried.
