My first shows of 2026!
I'm excited that my first 2026 show purchases are St. Vincent and Mavis Staples! And a recently discovered 2025 show - Corinne I saw your note and somehow didn't know that The Beths are coming here to Portland until last week even though I certainly look out for them. I'm happy to say that I'm going to see them on Nov 14 (the same week as Cut Copy and Neko Case!)

So glad to hear that so many people are fans of The Beths! I will definitely check out their videos. The first concert tickets purchased for 2026 are to see Brandi Carlile in LA in February. However, I'm certain that I'll end up seeing a handful of shows before that point :)

I saw Mavis at KEXP's Yule Fest with Tweedy...both acts were amazing! Tweedy had hilarious between-song banter too!
Concert Buddies: Neko Case SEA and PDX 11/14-15
Hey music loving friends. I'm going to see Neko Case tonight at the Paramount, as well as tomorrow at the Roseland Ballroom in PDX, in case anyone wants to meet up for a beverage beforehand. I'll be at the Six Arms tonight around 6:30-ish? Don't know about tomorrow as I'm not that familiar with the area near the Roseland. Open to suggestions!

@Marco Mazzoni - I was at Neko's show at the Paramount main floor and also thought the sound wasn't as good as I'd hoped for.
Fav Band You Can't See live
What's a favorite band that you weren't able to see live? There has to be some rules on this one, so here we go: - You must have been able to see them at some point, but didn't, for whatever reason - There's no likely way for you to see them live in the future, for whatever reason For me, there was a chance I could have seen Concrete Blonde play in New Mexico, but I only found out about the concert the day before, and there was no way I would have been able to make it up to the show never mind getting tickets. Also for me, there's bands I thought I'd never see which I've now seen four or five times, and bands that felt like they were right there which I never caught.

I would have liked to have seen David Bowie's Serious Moonlight tour...I was old enough to go to a show solo, but too young to afford the tickets. I tried and tried to win tix by calling into the local radio station, but my lucky number never came up. And he's not around anymore to see a show. :(
What is your week's obsession? (8 Nov '25 Edition)
What tracks (or albums!) can you not escape from - for whatever reason - this past week? What needs to be on repeat, what finds it's way in your head in the morning when you wake up? What are you obsessed with that you think might be someone else's obsession one day? This week, I've been obsessed - OBSESSED - with this track from Crumb, which I handily discovered via a live KEXP set: It's the song "Genie" by the band Crumb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDwnpqQq190

I've been listening to Who Is The Sky? and other Byrne/TH songs to prepare for last night's show. It was a fantastic experience, and if you can get your hands on a ticket...you'll have a great time!
First Show
I've considered doing a Morning Show about this but I only have 3 hours. It would take me 3 months. So mine was 16 years old, Jane's Addiction with Mary's Danish opening at Eastern Washington University. I remember walking in to "Coming Down the Mountain" and seeing bodies flying in the air, everyone wearing black, just absolute MAYHEM and all I wanted to do was more of this! I stayed out the pit that day and just stood there in awe to be seeing and hearing the music from a band I loved. I was HOOKED. I think they played 30 minutes because Perry was a mess but I didn't know any better and in fact was shocked when I saw a band play longer! Also first show in Seattle? Pixies. Moore Theater.

My first show was AC/DC's For Those About to Rock tour in Frankfurt, Germany. It was a 13th birthday gift from my sister who is/was 5 years older than me. The concert was as much as the gift as was the fact that she invited me to attend with her and her friends. The show was in the Festhalle - it was massive and mesmerizing. After 30 years and hundreds of shows, I'm not entirely sure about my first show, but I'm pretty sure my first Seattle show was The Fugees at Showbox at the Market.
