Fav Band You Can't See live
What's a favorite band that you weren't able to see live? There has to be some rules on this one, so here we go: - You must have been able to see them at some point, but didn't, for whatever reason - There's no likely way for you to see them live in the future, for whatever reason For me, there was a chance I could have seen Concrete Blonde play in New Mexico, but I only found out about the concert the day before, and there was no way I would have been able to make it up to the show never mind getting tickets. Also for me, there's bands I thought I'd never see which I've now seen four or five times, and bands that felt like they were right there which I never caught.

@Corinne Kuchling I was fortunate enough to get to see Bowie on both the Glass Spider and Serious Moonlight tours when I was living in Austin, TX. As a devoted fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan, I had hoped he would tour with Bowie, but that never happened. There's a good article out there somewhere that details how that all went down.

My biggest band that I missed was Pink Floyd's "Animals" tour when I was in high school in Dallas, TX. I had tickets, but I was 'grounded' for some insignificant reason. My dad was out of town so my brother was in charge and was adamant about not letting me go. "You'll get to see them some other time" which never turned out as my interests changed to focus on new wave and punk rock. 🥲
Concert Buddies: Neko Case SEA and PDX 11/14-15
Hey music loving friends. I'm going to see Neko Case tonight at the Paramount, as well as tomorrow at the Roseland Ballroom in PDX, in case anyone wants to meet up for a beverage beforehand. I'll be at the Six Arms tonight around 6:30-ish? Don't know about tomorrow as I'm not that familiar with the area near the Roseland. Open to suggestions!

Hi John, didn't see your message prior to the show. Between the two, I preferred the sound at the Roseland venue. We were seated in the balcony and didn't feel the need to use earplugs, which wasn't the case at the Paramount where we were on the floor in row X - so not that close. As a former live audio engineer, I'm very sensitive to the sound quality of the main PA systems. After listening to John Grant's "Queen of Denmark" I was disappointed that he didn't have a full band with him. I know the economics of touring are tough these days, but I was sad that it was just him and some keyboards. Hope you enjoyed the show!
What are some great music videos or clips that you like?
I've been watching these Poster Children clips on Youtube - I've seen them live a dozen times and miss their bouyant energy: https://youtu.be/Gvk-fJBUOvg?si=dyHPNBDHpW25t5Ev I'd love to know your favorite band videos...

This one never gets old for me. The bouyant harmonies are special. https://youtu.be/bwE5eB3SXUk?si=J94jDfKUOXes-diK

@Luke Shy One of the most amazing guitar solos ever recorded in a live performance. Such an amazing talent gone way too soon.
First Show
I've considered doing a Morning Show about this but I only have 3 hours. It would take me 3 months. So mine was 16 years old, Jane's Addiction with Mary's Danish opening at Eastern Washington University. I remember walking in to "Coming Down the Mountain" and seeing bodies flying in the air, everyone wearing black, just absolute MAYHEM and all I wanted to do was more of this! I stayed out the pit that day and just stood there in awe to be seeing and hearing the music from a band I loved. I was HOOKED. I think they played 30 minutes because Perry was a mess but I didn't know any better and in fact was shocked when I saw a band play longer! Also first show in Seattle? Pixies. Moore Theater.

My first show was Alice Cooper in Rio de Janeiro in 1974. I lied to my parents and told them I was going with friends and instead took the bus from Ipanema to downtown where the MaracanĂĄ soccer stadium was. Crazy thing for a skinny little blonde kid to do at that time. The concert was in the the 'little MaracanĂĄ' stadium right next door, and at the time, was the largest audience ever for an indoor concert. It was the Billion Dollar Babies tour so it had all the theatrics - the guillotine, the snake, a huge toothbrush chasing a tooth around the stage. When my parents split up and I moved to SoCal with my Mom, my first show in the US was Sweet with Ritchie Blackmor's Rainbow opening (featuring Ronnie James Dio!). At the end of Sweet's set they lowered a huge papier mache phallus from the ceiling and it shot out confetti. Quite a site for an impressionable 13 year old. After a bit, I moved to Dallas to live with my Dad and saw just about every single rock band that came through from '76-'80 - except for missing Pink Floyd's "Animals" tour because I was grounded for something mischievous. I moved to Austin in Sept of '80 for college and my first show there was the Talking Heads "Remain in Light" tour at the Armadillo World Headquarters, a notorious music venue that would be torn down soon so some capitalist music hater could build a stupid bank. There is a video of that tour stop in Rome, Italy floating around the internet that brings back so many memories.
New Music Friday
Friday the 7th was a strong day for new albums. The new Hatchie album bowled me over. Like a long lost Sundays album that could have been released between Blind and Static & Silence. Lovely new ones from Midlake, Stella Donnelly and Westerman. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the new White Lies album, anthemic without being bombastic.

Also enjoying the new Hatchie. I recall seeing them in the basement at Neumos aka Barboza, then upstairs in the main room. What's next - The Neptune? Showbox?

I've been involved with music on many levels since a high school garage band '70s, punk rock/new wave '80's, Apple '90's, & KEXP listener '00s onward.
