Thoughts on this topic?
Hi everyone, Curious what the beach volleyball community thinks about this. I’ve been a lifelong 6v6 indoor player. Grew up in Northern Colorado. I’m also very short for volleyball (5'2) but still managed to get college paid for playing at a few smaller schools through this sport, which I’m super grateful for. Anyway… I might be moving to Florida and would love to get into beach. But I know being 5'2 and trained mostly on the court might make me kind of a wacky beach partner lol. Don’t both players usually need to be able to hit and play at the net? Or are there other ways? I’m not trying to play at some crazy high level, but I also don’t want to just play rec level either. What should someone like me focus on to become a solid sand player? How would you train if you were in my position? Guessing vertical would be the biggest focus but still unsure if at my age (25) I should even be looking at doubles sand. Maybe 4v4s? For context, I was a setter about 90% of my career and my last year of college I played libero. Alright… give it to me straight in the comments. 😅

@Cheyanne Janney everything Caleb said is right! Starting with 4s would be great to learn how to move in the sand. You already have the skills to be successful playing beach. You just have to acclimate to the new environment. One reason why no matter what you HAVE to play beach and get to playing doubles is because you will love it! You will pick it up in no time! People will love you as a partner because you can pass and set!
Question of the day
If you could instantly perfect one skill, which would it be?

For me I'd go with court vision. That would allow me to make the best play no matter what. Even if I am not able to implement my speed and agility or jumping ability. I'd be able to play smarter not harder basically is what I'm thinking!
Tournament/ League Day Essentials
The one thing that I NEED for tournaments is a speaker and a good playlist. There is so much downtime between matches that good music goes a long way. A good speaker turns sitting and waiting around into a nice beach day!! What's one thing you bring to every tournament/league/ practice??

Man yea mentally speakers are a must for me! Definently can't go through a tournament without drinks and fuel! Gotta have those electrolytes and some pickle juice! I love my metal core music, but at the beach with other people I love playing some grunge era and more modern rock. Love Chilli Peppers and Foo Fighters!
Shoulder prep
What exercises/stretches would you recommend to loosen up your shoulders and create an elongated range of motion?

I would also add giving your lats a good stretch as well. Those couple with stretched pecs and a warmed shoulder joint will ensure you are maximizing your mobility and reach prior to playing. Now if I only I would take any advice myself and make sure I am stretched and warm before I play...🤔
Day 3
Today was shoulder rehab day. Big goal of mine this season is to fix my shoulder pain. Step 1 is getting my shoulder blades moving correctly. This is one of the exercises my PT has me doing and it’s been working wonders. Anyone else experiencing shoulder issues?

I definently experience shoulder pain but more often discomfort from a lot of playing so I look forward to giving this a try my guy 🤙

Howdy, I'm Chris! I love volleyball in all it's forms. My heart is most fulfilled with beach doubles but I mess with indoor for the hops!
