The Slight Edge
Jeff Olson has a famous theory called The Slight Edge. Jeff says daily disciplines repeated consistently over time add up to the difference between success and failure. His book has been one of the most powerful influences in my life. I have come to realize that rather than spending a lot of time on end goals, I need to work on identifying specific daily actions that keep me moving in the right direction. So rather than naming a million dollar milestone, I remind myself I need to follow my daily marketing checklist and select one best-fit client to onboard each quarter. It’s easy to pull together the support staff needed to mange that clear task and the new work that comes from it. Can I hope to have a million dollar year? Sure. But if I fail to do my daily writing and my weekly networking I won’t get there. It is harder than it sounds. It is just as easy not to do it and there are no immediate repercussions when I let marketing slide. But therein lies the magic of the slight edge. You are either moving up or you are going down. This Skool group is designed to help us be more consistent with marketing and to support participants who want to keep their organization on track with the daily disciplines that will get their team to the next million dollar milestone. I’m so glad you’re here.

šŸ“Œ Marketing myths we should leave behind
There are still so many ā€œrulesā€ floating around that just do not hold up anymore. Post at a certain time, use a specific number of hashtags, the algorithm is out to get you… the list goes on. What is one marketing myth you think we should stop believing? I know our community will have some fun answers.

@Eliot Payne I wish we had laugh reacts. Dollar tree and silver dollar city totally sound like they could be the same thing!
šŸŽ¤ šŸŽ§ Are you listening or speaking?
In marketing, do you think listening to your audience is more important than speaking to them? šŸ‘‰ For example, is success more about sharing your message… or truly understanding what people want first?

When I was in college a professor told our class that when you start a new job you should take 3-6 months to really learn the ropes and try to understand why things are the way they are before you start suggesting changes. This feels applicable here. If you don’t listen and understand your target audience before beginning to share your message, you’ve almost got to luck out to have a delivery that will land. I think the big consideration there would need to be cost benefit analysis. If you spend all of your resources listening without any action then the message won’t be heard anyways. I’m still a marketing novice, but as far as human behavior goes in my experience that’d hold true - but please feel free to challenge me! šŸ˜‚

Hello all! I’m a Manager at Enterprise Holdings in our Security Operations Center (SOC). We’re basically the front line of defense for cybersecurity threats, and it’s super interesting work! I realized pretty early on in my career that I wanted to be a people manager in a technical area, so this is pretty much a dream job for me! I’m really interested in business, process, and systems. I’ve discovered on my quest for knowledge how important marketing concepts are. Be it for how I market my teams to external organizations, how to effectively lead my team to maximize our impact on the company, or how I want my own image to be projected in the workforce. I look forward to learning more and getting involved!
