Back-up Drivers - SE Denver Area
Hey all - we’re under 2 years old. My biz partner and sometimes his son do all the driving. Their family had a tragic situation which will pull my biz partner away temporarily but unsure for how long. The son is partially impacted but not as much, however his availability is less and less reliable as he has found other jobs at this point. How have you navigated getting a backup driver (CDL needed) on an as-needed basis? Pay structure? Insurance? Lead time for jobs? Etc where to find these folks that aren’t going to want to be paid a ton but have a fair amount of availability (and maybe experience?!) Thought about someone retired but wants something to do here and there. Please share your experiences, things I should consider and avoid, and any resources you might have! Note, we’ve always talked about me getting my CDL, but that takes time and money we don’t have right now.

@Joseph Maxey oooh thank you!! Those are great to broaden my options! We had only been thinking of retirees.
Customer response time
How fast should customer response time be? The faster the response, the happier the customer, but with the team I found that if we did next day or same day it ended up stressing them.

Phone calls within an hour or two tops. Deliveries - we have an order by noon for next day delivery policy. It’s just me and my biz partner who drives the truck, so I do always ask if I can add it and he will accommodate it, if his schedule allows. We service a lot of rural properties so it’s not always feasible.
Will a CRM help my Dumpster Business make money through Efficiency?
I hear people asking all the time... Should I get a CRM? Whats the right number of cans to have before I get one? Is it worth it when I only have 3 dumpsters? Which program to use? Today we answer those questions. A CRM can be a highly valuable tool, but it could also be a big waste of money if you're not able to use it to it's potential. Lets dive into some nuance around those questions. If you'd like to schedule a demo with Docket FOR FREE... It would help me and my family if you used my link. 🚀 https://www.yourdocket.com/maxco-dumpsters/ Thanks

I’m a user and lover of Docket but I would not define it as a true CRM. It does not do mass email or text marketing. You can send bulk texts but it’s all manual and not great reporting or tracking in term of a leads or sales pipeline.
VINYL LETTERING, STICKERS AND WRAPS
Just curious — do you guys handle your own vinyl lettering, or do you take it to a vinyl shop? 🤔 And what about wraps — do you have a pro do it, or produce it yourself? I’ve seen wraps around here going for about $5K, and even lettering’s not cheap 💸. I’ve used StickerMule and Lettering.com to help my son out before, but it still added up fast. So I’m wondering — did you buy your own vinyl machine and start doing it in-house, or do you outsource everything? I’ve seen one local guy who clearly used stencils and spray paint — quick, sure, but it looks… well, cheap 🫠. I know it’s “just a dumpster,” but branding matters — that two-tone look or clean logo really helps you stand out from the pack 🟡🔴. I really like the job Joe did with his dumpsters — that raccoon logo is a nice touch 🦝👏. There’s also a guy in Josh’s network (forget his name) who’s got a rhino logo — I think his company’s called Rhino Solutions — and it really works. Makes me think I might need to come up with a mascot myself. 🦏💡 I want to make it simple, memorable, and not too busy — something that sticks without looking cluttered. Any suggestions for a mascot or logo concept for Pro Dumpster Rentals? I’m open to creative ideas that still look professional and tough. Also, John at Same Day Dumpsters out in Salt Lake City has a great setup — mixing orange, baby blue, and white trucks. It’s clean, fresh, and stands out without looking overdone. 🎨🚛 Even the big dogs like Republic and Waste Management keep it simple with one centered logo — but since every dumpster’s a rolling billboard, I still want something that pops without breaking the bank 💥. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’m chasing that sweet spot between cost and brand impact. Anyone else wrestle with the same decision? 🙏

I have made my own and hired a local company. Yes you can do it cheaper on your own however the time it costs you to learn how to do it and source the materials is time better spent on networking and serving clients. To me it’s worth hiring a local pro.
Swap outs!
Question for the group! Customer books a 7-day rental. Fills it up early and needs another. How are you handling these?

Same price for an exchange as a new drop. The only time we wouldn't do this is if we have an established relationship with a contractor who uses us frequently, we might be inclined to give a small (I mean tiny) discount to recurring renters.
