SOTD: Spicebomb Extreme by Viktor & Rolf 21/03/2026
This for me is the GOAT, in my collection. A classic winter favourite. Ever since it's release in 2015 by Carlos Benaim & Jean Christophe Hérault it's built a reputation as a heavy-hitting, cozy, high performance scent that has a touch sweetness than the original Spicebomb. Still a modern classic, with that Iconic grenade bottle. This is one of the few designer fragrances that still lives up to its Extreme title, even with modern batch variations. While the original Spicebomb is a blast of sharp black pepper and citrus, Extreme trades some of that bite for a thicker, creamier, more sophisticated dry down. A quick flash of Pimento, black pepper grapefruit gets the opening off to a great start. It’s spicy, but the citrus fades almost instantly. The core is where the extreme comes to play, with a heavy dose of cinnamon, cumin & saffron. At the base you find the soul of the fragrance. A rich blend of tobacco, bourbon vanilla, amber & Labdanum. It smells like a high-end tobacco pipe mixed with a warm vanilla latte. This will easily give you 8+ hrs in the right conditions and you will be smelling it for days from your laundry basket. It projects strongly for the first 2-3 hrs and can easily fill the room if your heavy handed with the trigger lime me. It will leave a noticeable, magnetic trail that people will catch as you walk by. Ideal for date nights, outdoor winter events, or clubbing. Is it still worth it in 2026? Hell yes. Despite newer flankers like Dark Leather & Metallic Musk, If you enjoy warm, spicy, sweet fragrances, this is a must-own for your cold-weather rotation. My Rating 10/10 Scent 3 Longevity 3 Sillage 3 Y/N 1

Skin Test Session - Four Smells
Had a mixed day today, helping arrange a funeral on one hand but testing fragrances with my wife on the other. The usual rules applied... loads of stuff tested on card, four standouts tested on skin. Here we go! 1 - Tony Iommi Monkey Special by Xerjoff. This has been on my wishlist for a good while, and a week ago my local stockist got a new tester. I applied a full skin wear then, but found it not as lovely as I hoped. Today I gave myself another spritz on the arm as a final check, and I'm happy to say that I loved it just as much as I have in the past. Treacley smokey woody leathery greatness. 50ml bottle on my horizon. 2 - Hibiscus Mahajad by Maison Crivelli. Took a wristful of this after enjoying a card. Floral fresh musk which is surprisingly light. I'm a fan of this house's heavier scents like Oud Stallion, but this one is something my wife enjoys too. Picked up the extrait discovery set plus a couple of extra samples to run it through the wringer. 3 - Alto Astral by Byredo. Another surprising fragrance that was pushed on us as we passed the counter. Lovely wet coconutty scent that leans heavily towards Creed's Virgin Island Water. If I'm honest, the VIW beats this, but it's definitely a decent offering from the house. Dried down intimate on my arm. 4 - Delphinus by Creed. Ended with my usual "just pop on something random", this time at the Creed counter. I liked the orange bottle, but I LOVED the wonderful almond top note. It's a great scent, a lovely vanilla gourmand that has a transerrence from Black Pepper through to Patchoili that is absolute fire. Another one to consider if the discount is good enough, but it's distant third behind Wild Vetiver and Virgin Island Water on my want list. I also tried some Davidoff Cool Water and some D&G Light Blue Pour Homme, as they were heavily discounted and I like their scent profile. As usual, marine aquatics said hi then pulled an immediate Irish Goodbye on my skin, so they remained on the shelf despite the savings.

Burberry Hero EDT
I’ve been wearing Burberry Hero Eau de Toilette for a while now, and overall I think it’s a really solid everyday fragrance. It’s clean, fresh, and easy to wear without feeling too heavy or complicated. When I first spray it, I get a bright citrus opening that smells very fresh and a little sweet. After a few minutes it starts to settle into a smooth woody scent. The cedarwood really stands out to me, and it gives the fragrance a nice masculine feel without being too strong. It’s the kind of scent that just smells put-together and modern. Performance is decent but not amazing. I usually get a few hours out of it before it starts to fade, but it stays close to the skin after the first hour or two. It’s great for daytime, the office, or just running around town because it’s not overpowering. Ratings (my opinion): - Scent: 8/10 – Fresh, woody, and very easy to like. - Longevity: 6/10 – Lasts a few hours but not all day. - Sillage: 5/10 – Moderate at first, then becomes more subtle. Overall, I think Burberry Hero EDT is a great casual fragrance. It’s simple, clean, and versatile—something you can wear almost anywhere without worrying about it being too much.

It’s Not How You Look, But How You Feel
Trying something a little different this week. Instead of presenting each item on its own, I’m framing them as a cohesive set—not just for how they look together, though that has its place, but for the way they shape how I feel and the image I’m aiming to project. This image projects a refined, established persona—someone who values heritage, polish, and understated luxury. The deep navy fragrance bottle, paired with the gold-accented watch and warm wood background, signals confidence rooted in tradition rather than trend. Overall, it suggests a man who is composed, successful, and intentional about presenting a classic, quietly commanding presence.
