Mission 3 day 23 saffy object retrieval
We have been working on the finger part of object retrieval briefly before breakfast most days. Today I remembered to grab my phone.🤪. She is doing so much better. @Amanda Taulborg thank you for the tip to turn away. I made sure to have a “not playing that game” energy when doing that and it was a huge help in moving forward. Today I felt a big shift in her (our?) confidence and now I can now put my finger all the through her mouth! We had one slight pull away but quickly reset. At the end she gave me a great “Me”! Man when they look you in the eyes like that . . . 🥹🥲

🎉🎉 HECK YESSSSSS WAY TO COMPLETE THE FIRST STEP OF OBJECT RETRIEVAL!!! 🥳🙌🐾 This looks SO good!! I love that you were able to get your finger in from both the right and left side 🙌 I love how patiently she’s waiting for the marker—like you can literally see her thinking it through. And your timing?? On point. Mark → reward → energy → praise… it’s all clean and clear and she’s responding to it beautifully. And yep—I know that look 😂 when they know they crushed the session and just lock eyes with you… that little soul gaze moment? One of the best feelings ever!! You can tell your training skills are leveling up too. Your energy is genuine, your praise is real, and ending on a win with a jackpot was perfect 👏 And I’m so glad the “turn away / stop the game” tip helped!! That’s exactly what it is—it’s a super fair way to say, “hey, if we’re not playing this the right way, we’re just not playing at all lol.” And of course… she’s like WAIT NO I WANNA PLAY 😂 especially with food involved hahaha. Also big picture—this isn’t just object retrieval. You’re building: stronger bond, mental enrichment (working for meals 👏), patience, clarity in communication! ALL of that stacks. She is sooo close to moving to an actual object 👀🔥 but for now keep doing exactly this—practice in different spots around the house, light distractions, same rules everywhere so she really understands the game no matter what’s going on. So so good. Keep going. I LOVE this progress!! 🐕‍🦺💛

Ollie Doing Spot!
Ollie and I worked on spot tonight! I’m a little rusty with the littles because we haven’t had one in the house in a bit and it showed in this video but I got it together eventually! 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ Things I would change after watching the video back: 1. I forgot to block the spot with my foot 🤦🏼‍♀️ 2. I kept going in front of the camera so you couldn’t see Ollie lol 3. Could’ve probably lined him up better a few times 4. I wasn’t sure what command to use to get him off the spot so I just kinda encouraged him off of it? What should I be using? 5. I didn’t lure as much as I probably should have, and didn’t always have treats immediately in hand so I had to fish for them. My treat pouch fell off at work today and is MIA so plastic bag in the pocket was tonight’s solution 🤦🏼‍♀️ Things that went well: 1. Once he figured out the game, he was ALL about it - when he saw me putting the Zuke’s and food in a plastic bag he got SO excited and was trying to get to me from on the lanai with my dad 🤣 He really CAN do anything through Zuke’s hahaha 2. He listened to other obedience pretty well and chilled out when I had him sit to get him back to listening instead of “oh my gosh FOOD!!” mode 3. He had lots of good 2 front feet on the spot! Bonus win for Atlas: He stayed in a down & stay the whole time I was training Ollie and didn’t try to come interrupt or show off lol

Saffy 2 big days of experiences
Saffy and I went to EPCOT yesterday and explored the Moana attraction, the aquarium (thank you @Kenzie Carlson for the suggestion) and went into Mexico, which was our 1st time going to the World Show case. She just nailed it from easily getting on the tram, walking with “no hands” cross body leash, chilling with the manatees & kids. Her only issue was the shooting water outside Nemo and friends. She did not care for the sound. She did do a nervous but good down/ stay with praise and treats for a couple rounds of the noise!! We had some fun free dog time near the relief area and handle the super tight crowd by Mexico so well! So super dupper proud of her! Today we ran errands. She did so great heeling behind the cart. I didn’t even have to say anything, I was so proud. One stop was Lowes and we had our first experience with a dog the got out of his collar. Luckily he seemed nice and friendly but . . . scared me. Here is the story . . . I had Saffy attached to the cart while shopping and was just undoing her leash when she gave a slight tug. I looked up to see a dog walking across the wider than usual aisle towards us. Saffy immediately obeyed a sit/stay/leave it while I assessed what was happening. The owner was embarrassed and grabbed the dog put the collar back on and the dog immediately got loose. I was frustrated but stayed still and quickly decided when the owner grabbed the dog again to just gather Saffy’s leash and leave before the dog had another chance to get away. I praised her for a good leave it. I found a quiet aisle, got her leash situated and took a deep breath and was thankful for the training we have! I did keep an eye out for that dog during the rest of the trip. I do not like meeting stranger’s dogs especially when off leash. I was scared but immediately turned my focus towards Saffy’s safety which helped me get through the situation. SD to the rescue in an unconventional way! @Amanda Taulborg I wondered in that moment (that felt like forever) what to do and staying still seemed like the best decision at the time. I know every situation is different but what is your advice for a situation like this? And thank you for our group training, especially teaching them/us to ignore the other dogs!

🎉🎉 YAYYYYY JULIE AND SAFFY!!! 🥳🐾🐕‍🦺 I LOVE everything about this!!! Your EPCOT adventure sounds AMAZING and she seriously showed up like a rockstar 🙌 The tram, no-hands leash, tight crowds, chilling with the manatees AND kids… that is HUGE. And I love that you worked through the water noise instead of avoiding it—that’s exactly how you build confidence 👏👏 Also YES thank you Kenzie for that aquarium suggestion—that’s such a good one!! For the water noise—Common Ground Park in Lakeland would be a great place to practice. They have water features for kids that make similar unpredictable sounds, so it’s a really good opportunity for her to be around it, hang out, and build confidence with it. We may even schedule a group training class there 👀 Now for the store situation… First of all—SO frustrating 😅 People really do amaze me sometimes lol But more importantly—SAFFY 👏 WAS 👏 PERFECT 👏 The sit/stay/leave it?? The neutrality?? That is EXACTLY what we want. Rockstar behavior. And honestly… what you did was spot on. In those situations, my priority is: - Get my dog under control (clear command: leave it, sit, stay) - Step in front / physically block - Prevent ANY face-to-face interaction I have zero hesitation getting my body, a cart, or anything in between the dogs. If needed—stomp, use your voice, create space. The goal is to stop that moment where dogs meet face-to-face, because that’s when things can escalate fast. Walking away can work—but like you said, if a dog is already locked in, sometimes that just invites them to follow faster. So what you did—pause, assess, advocate for Saffy, then exit when safe—was a really solid call. Most important piece: 👉 You stayed clear, you took control, and you protected your dog 👉 And SHE trusted you and held it together That’s the win. Seriously—this whole post is just 🔥🔥🔥 I love hearing about Saffy’s adventures and seeing this level of training come together in real life. Thank you so much for posting, Julie!! You’re doing an AMAZING job—keep it up!!! 💛🐾

@Julie Kelley GREAT idea 🙌 Will make one for sure!
Sandy Crushing Shopping
Sandy went shopping with me! She practiced rear end awareness, backup with the shopping cart, and ignored the people and crazy noises around her. And also new level unlocked….. Sandy ignored a duck (she LOVES birds), a squirrel, andddd a paper towel (if you know Sandy, she loves a good paper towel)!!!!!!! I am very proud of her tonight!
