Introduction
My name is Gabrielle. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago now. I still have many days it’s hard to navigate celiac especially the loneliness of the disease. I’m on a continuous journey towards health! I’ve really wanted a space like this to belong to that will be filled with others who just get what it feels like!

Welcome You’ll find this group so helpful and welcoming. It makes a big difference having people that truly know what you’re going through and understand that not eating Gluten is often not the worst part of having coeliac disease
Pizza express
When I first got diagnosed, pizza express was my saving grace. Went there a few times and it was fine. First time I got it for takeaway I got glutened quite badly, but I assumed it was just because I don’t call them to clarify. I (stupidly) got a takeaway there a second time, calling in advance that I was a coeliac and they assured me that everything would be separated and safe for me, and still got glutened!! I’ve lost all hope in them, even though they’re accredited by coeliac uk, and was wondering if maybe I’ve jus been really unlucky with my local chain, or it’s just a pizza express problem. Thoughts?

How rubbish for you :( I imagine you have lost faith in one of our safest food options. I have been to pizza express several times since diagnosis last year and have always been well looked after and not had any problems. That said I have not had takeaway.
Coeliac diagnosis
Hi everyone has anyone else been diagnosed but never had a referral for a dietician or to have a bone scan? Just curious.

@Ellie Slater I was the same, it took ages to actually get to talk to a dietitian. I paid silly money to talk to someone privately for an hour as I had no idea what to believe.

Having said that, when I finally spoke to nhs dietitian the appointment was more useful than the private one
First time eating out
Morning ladies, on Sunday I’m going for my first meal out and I’m a bit scared 🤣 I’ve chosen Wildwood as it’s the only place local to us that feels safe ish. They have great GF options as all their pizza & pasta can be made GF and they have naturally GF risotto etc. I called and asked how things are prepared, although they don’t have a separate area she said they use different chopping boards, baking trays, utensils etc and the chefs change gloves. I’m having the pasta so I asked about the cooking water and she said it’s new clean water but I’m going to confirm this again on the night. We will have the GF stone baked garlic bread to start and I forgot to ask how that’s cooked as it can’t go straight on the oven surface? Am I missing anything obvious?! Thanks ☺️

I still get nervous now about eating out, how did it go? I tried somewhere new whilst staying in Portishead this weekend, not coeliac accredited which would always be my go to option. But they gave me all the info I wanted without having to ask lots of questions, just ‘I have coeliac disease, can you cater for me?’ I love when they give all the answers to all of my questions before I get to ask them. It gives me confidence that they really do know what they’re talking about. I’ll give it a few more days to check for symptoms but then all the positive reviews will be posted on find me gf and tripadvisor
Vaccines
Has anyone else taken the Pneumococcal vaccine? Do you feel this is necessary. Interested in the groups views.

Yes, I had mine along with Flu and Covid. I will take anything on offer if it lessens my chances of getting seriously ill. I also have another auto immune condition which I have immunosuppressants for so need all the protection I can get.
